Tiddlywinks just reverted may edit. He says it is hardly diffrent being both politeness but I think the Japanese version is fundamentally diffrent in that it references a common Japanese courtsy whereas the dub makes it simply into a matter of gym leader politeness. They're both matters of being polite/"courteous" when you get down to it. There's no great change in the tone. It's one of those things that pretty much has to be changed anyway, you really can't be fussy because they didn't somehow manage to keep "enough" of the original (I really can't imagine how they'd do that).
