Name Origin

It's name is a combo of Mud and Clydesdale. Yamitora1 (talk) 14:29, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

I don't know if it's worth adding buuuuut...

Mudsdale is now the 3rd heaviest Pokemon. Is that worth adding to Trivia? --Celadonkey (talk) 19:05, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Nope. If it's not top, it's not notable. Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:09, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Even if it was notable, we just can't add "the only/the -st Pokémon" trivia bits until all Pokémon of the generation are known, because in the same generation, a heavier/larger/etc. Pokémon may be introduced, or in the case of "the only", one more Pokémon with such feature may be introduced, thus making the feature not unique. Ah, true. --Celadonkey (talk) 22:12, 20 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

mudsdale's mane

Horse person here to chime in that the "dreadlocks" look more like braids to me. Qquagga (talk) 01:36, 20 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

They're certainly styled after braids, but they're also stylized beyond that into something ultimately much closer to dreadlocks. Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:56, 20 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

further possible inspiration

this pokemon wears red mud on its legs and hair (which appear to form dreads).

something that is worth noting is mud is also synonymous at times with clay

the Himba People wear red clay in their hair and body, using it to form dreads.

I think the similarity is enough to be worth considering

Poitou Donkey

It seems to me that Mudbray and Mudsdale might be partially based on the Poitou donkey. It's special hair looks a lot like Mudsdale's braids and Mudbray is a donkey Mangaman13 (talk) 02:23, 11 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Possible Additional Inspiration?

So, it's very clear that Mudsdale is based on a Clydesdale, but a friend of mine brought up an interesting additional possibility. It could also be inspired by a Clydesdale mule. They have huge ears that look extremely similar to Mudsdale's, and at least some of them (Google Images doesn't seem to be very good about capturing this fact) have the distinctive fuzzy feet that Clydesdales have. Thus, Mudsdale could be inspired both by a draft horse like a Clydesdale and a draft mule bred from a Clydesdale. Plus, that would make a slightly less dramatic shift from Mudbray, who is a donkey. Whilst it is possible, information online is somewhat hard to find and verify especially while I was looking for pictures as it seems to just depend on which traits happen to be passed down. --Spriteit (talk) 05:10, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
