Faraway place

I think it might be worth mentioning the "faraway place" / とおいばしょ quirk here in a little more depth, but I'm not sure how to work it in. Drifter (talk) 17:03, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

"[When sent to SwSh] the original met location is permanently lost"

I've just updated this to say that the Met Location of a Pokemon from BDSPLASV sent to SwSh is restored upon the Pokemon's return to HOME, since this is in-line with how the games actually work, although I want to ask if this was rooted in something, or just a complete misunderstanding that went unnoticed? Specifically, was this true in past versions of Pokemon HOME and has since been patched out? If so, the section should probably be updated as such to mention what versions the bug existed in, and when it was patched. For now I've just removed it since it's wrong concurrently and I don't remember it ever holding true. EvieTheTransEevee (talk) 21:00, 21 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

This section has been updated, and this time provides an actual source for the claim, but via some testing (I don't have hacking tools, I just caught a Shinx in the Obsidian Fieldlands in LA, transferred it to SwSh, transferred it to BDSP, then transferred it back to LA to see it still had it's Met Location saved as 'in the Obsidian Fieldlands'), the claim that Sword and Shield can permanently erase Met Locations, at least in the way explained by the source and in the current version of Pokemon HOME, is outright wrong.
If there is anyone who is aware of proper documentation on how this is handled, I'd love to know and see it attached to this page. Specifically, did this occur in earlier versions of Pokemon HOME and has since been patched? If so the page should be rewritten to not insinuate that this occurs in the current version. Was this just a brief panic since Met Locations from BDSP onwards are temporarily overwritten when sent to SwSh and people thought they were gone forever at the time? If so this should not be a note on the page whatsoever.
I don't want to outright remove this section again since it's clear there's at least some number of people who actively believe this claim, however the explanation given by the provided source is outright wrong on the current version of HOME and, unless there *is* some other niche order of transfers that can cause issues, the claim made by this page that SwSh is capable of permanently erasing Met Locations is outright incorrect.
