Possible origin: the Hundun

It might seem a bit of a stretch to say that Chi-Yu is based on the Hundun, but hear me out here. First of all, all three of the other Treasures of Ruin have a very clear connection with one of the Four Perils of Chinese mythology: Wo-Chien is the Taotie, Chien-Pao is the Taowu, and Ting-Lu is the Qionqi. That means that only the Hundun is left for Chi-Yu. Now the Hundun normally has multiple legs and wings, while Chi-Yu has... fins. But the Hundun is also meant to be a representation of chaos or flux, which flames does seem to fit. And the perhaps most clear connection is that the Hundun does not have a face, while Chi-Yu's "eyes" are the beads themselves. Without the beads, Chi-Yu would have no eyes, and thus no face. If "primordial chaos with no face" was the inspiration, Chi-Yu definitely seems to fit the bill, which would complete the set of Perils embodied as pokemon.
