Tangela and Bibarel's Rarity

By my empirical experience, Tangela and Bibarel are not "Very Common". I've been playing Big Forest for a while and the second group rarely appears and it's often overrode by the first group of encounters. It's at least "Common", in my experience, but I'm not sure how the page was wrote with what tables. Williamgg (talk) 11:48, 4 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

You had me looking at the code (which is so interesting and largely undocumented), and they should be more common than Group C if Group A is not yet unlocked.
(I can also confirm that Tropius is more likely than Bonsly, so you do have higher chances of getting Bibarel/Tangela if you got Bonsly.)
Would you be absolutely certain that it's less likely to get Group B if Group A was unlocked, though? If so, would it be significantly?
(Btw, another good example to test this would be for Quiet Cave, where I'm wondering how the Feebas:Spiritomb ratio is compared to the Feebas:Munchlax ratio.)

Thank you for your response and for checking! It is indeed a very interesting game, and so simple yet addictive. Ok great, so Bonsly and Tropius should be differentiated between them, somehow? I would like to check the code too, I'm curious to know how the "Common" value is expressed in the code. To answer your question: I was testing specifically within the group B, so from 1000+ steps, and before 5000. I tried a couple of different days, and restarting in Big Forest a few times. And within the group B range, I noticed an unusual majority of group C appearing. Specifically I was trying to get Tangela, and Exeggcute was appearing what it felt like 4/5 times. But thanks for checking, I didn't know there was code accessible! Williamgg (talk) 08:29, 11 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
The value for Tangela (and Bibarel) is "55", so nothing special compared to other Group B Pokémon on other routes. (Which should translate to 55% vs. 45% in a Group B vs. Group C scenario. So might've been just bad luck, and/or perceived bad luck if you only tracked via what it felt like.)
I was under the impression that you had tested with all three groups available, hence my question (but I realize I probably misunderstood). Hopefully, I'll find (or decompile) code that will answer my question anyway. Nescientist (talk) 14:22, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Just for the record, my questions have been answered by looking at the code, see User:Nescientist/Pokéwalker research. Group A just plain "eats up" some of Group B's probability once it's unlocked. Nescientist (talk) 22:41, 15 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
