Pokémon postboxes or mailboxes are officially-licensed Pokémon-themed postboxes themed after certain Pokémon and found exclusively in Japan,

Appearance

For these promotional postboxes, The Pokémon Company partner with local prefectures and local postal services for their construction.[1] These postboxes function as real postboxes, letting visitors to deposit their outgoing mail as usual. These postboxes are painted to resemble a Poké Ball, with a Pokémon statue placed on top. So far, there have been a total of four official Pokémon postboxes built.

The first official Pokémon postbox were first unveiled in Takamatsu City located in the Kagawa Prefecture in Japan on March 24, 2021.[1] This postbox was created as a partnership between the The Pokémon Company and Shikoku branch of Japan Post for the Pokémon Local Acts campaign and its local ambassador of the Kagawa Prefecture, Slowpoke. The design of the postbox features the Pokémon sitting on top of the Poké Ball-colored box, with a bridge and Udon noodles embodying the Kagawa Prefecture's local attractions. A hidden artwork of Shellder can be seen located on the back.[2] A mail truck was also unveiled at the event, also adorned with Slowpoke artwork.

Additionally, the central Japan Post office in Takamatsu City held a special promotion that made a special Slowpoke stamp available for all visitors until December 31, 2021.[1]

Pikachu, Eevee, and Piplup Postbox (Yokohama)

As a promotion with the launch of their Pokémon postage stamps, Japan Post installed three Pokémon-themed postboxes around Yokohama.[3] This trio of postboxes were unveiled on July 7, 2021 and is set to be demolished on June 30, 2026.[4]

At Yokohama City Hall, two postboxes featuring Pikachu and Eevee can be found. Meanwhile, the Piplup postbox can be found at the Yokohama Sakuragi Post Office a short distance away. A limited edition small stamp was made avaliable to be be stamped on mail delivered from these special postboxes from July 7th, 2021 until June 30th, 2022. Foreign addressed mail and special New Year's mail was not eligible to be stamped.[5]
