Pokémon Team Challenge

The Pokémon Team Challenge events were a series of online tournaments held by the Play! Pokémon organized play division of The Pokémon Company International for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (mainly through Pokémon TCG Online), their presence being correlated with the cancellation of in-person events during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event centered around four-person teams of Master Division players representing registered local game stores, using the Standard format rules at the time. Championship points were not awarded, and after the Qualifiers players could switch decklists when their team was not battling another one.
Each store first hosted a qualifier stage to create their team in the span of almost ten weeks that, starting with Season 3, could be played in-person where available. In the next stage, teams competed against eachother through other ten weeks in 3v3 round-robin elimination brackets (needing to win five or more times), initially competing with stores of the same city and advancing to regional, national, and global levels if they progressed. In the Grand Finals, the top two stores would play a 3v3 game to decide the winner team.
The final rounds were prerecorded and broadcasted through the official Pokémon YouTube and Twitch channels, featuring casters from other Play! Pokémon events.
All participants received tradeable booster pack code cards depending on the number of players in the qualifier of their chosen store and deck boxes and card sleeves for the PTCGO themed on the events, which were later migrated into Pokémon TCG Live. Exclusive playmats for the top 256 and top 32 teams were also awarded to both players and stores.
