Pokémon Battle Dome is a 2005 board game created by Hasbro and Milton Bradley. It is a Pokémon-branded version of Battle Dome. The game is similar to "pinball" where up to two to four players use flippers to deflect "energy balls" out of their corresponding Pokémon's container, or else it will take "damage". The player with the least amount of balls in their container is declared the winner. It features branding based on Pokémon the Series.

Blurb

Your Pokémon is under attack and only you can save him. Use the flippers to deflect the energy balls. Each time a ball falls in your goal, your Pokémon takes damage. If at the end of the game your Pokémon has the least amount of damage, you win and your Pokémon goes on to fight another day![1]

Contents

According to the included instruction booklet[2], the contents of the game are as follows:

  • 1x Pokémon Battle Dome
    • 1x Ball Dispenser
    • 1x Dome
    • 1x Base
  • 1x Instructions Booklet
  • 45x Energy Balls (40 yellow, 5 red)
  • 2x Gates

Gameplay

First, players must setup the Battle Dome based on how many players they have. If there are fewer than four players, the dome must be removed from its base in order to place the included gates to block off any unused containers. Once, that is done the dome is reattached by lining up the edges of the dome with the edges of the base. Next, players must take the ball dispenser and wind it up clockwise using the key on the top. The more wound up the mechanism is, the faster the balls will drop. Once that is done, the door on the side can be opened, revealing an entryway for the balls to be deposited. After filling the ball dispenser, the door can be closed and the mechanism can finally be reattached back on top of the dome. Finally, players will take their positions and get ready to play.

Once the ON/OFF switch on the ball dispenser is set to ON, the round will begin. Using a pair of flippers, players must keep Energy Balls away from their Pokémon's container in order to win. If an energy ball lands in a player's Pokémon's container, their Pokémon will take damage. Yellow balls count as one point of damage and red balls count as five. The player with least number of points is declared the winner for that round. A damage counter can be found on each player's container. After each round, each losing player must tick up their counters while the winner will keep theirs in the same position. After this, players must disengage the ball dispenser and refill it based on the setup instructions above. The game will end once a player reaches the last notch on their counter. At this point, the player with the least amount of amount of damage (their counter is the furthest right) will be declared the winner.

Another suggested variation of play is if you have all 5 red balls in your container, you win that round. The player will then move their counter to the right by either one or two notches, depending on preference.[2]
