Move to more accurate name
As the edit summary says, "Pokémon type" is a valid way to describe these. So is "Energy type", because the TCG will never ever make things easy. Energy type is more correct in my opinion, as a these are a property of both Pokemon and Energy. It also means "card" no longer has to float in the middle, because it's not like the games have "Energy" to worry about. (Fine, Dragon Energy, but again Pokemon does not organize well.)
I think this category should be moved to the more correct name. Salmancer (talk) 16:34, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
- I believe "Energy type" is correct. "Pokémon type" only appears on the "Parts of a Pokémon Card" section in the BW-on rulebooks, and in those sections, it's contrasted with the "Trainer type" label on a Trainer card. The instances where "card type" appears are to differentiate between Pokémon, Trainer, and Energy cards, but that's not what this category is for. --Apopheniac (talk) 21:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- I wouldn't just stop at the rulebook. A name search says that "Pokémon type" is a 100% valid rules & marketing term.
- The Celebrations site, which uses it with regard to a Gardevoir δ
- This press release for Card Dex, notably having both Energy type and Pokemon type in the same article
- The overview page for Dragons Exalted, which is hyping up "the first new Pokémon type introduced to Pokémon TCG in over a decade"
- The Kalos Starter Set overview page, which I just learned about, says Fairy is the 11th Pokemon type. It also says "In order to attack with Fairy-type Pokémon, players will need to use basic Fairy Energy, the ninth Energy type in the Pokémon TCG.", which has a ton of implications. (I assume it's Colorless sitting out again, but Colorless is a type. Unless it's to mean Colorless symbols in costs actually don't represent Colorless Energy as a concept, a reading backed up by the rulebook...)
- One of the many "Guide to Energy Symbols" running around in the depths of the Pokémon.com servers, all of which use "Pokémon type". Salmancer (talk) 01:26, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, and also the Poké Catch rules. Salmancer (talk) 15:15, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
