For example, to receive a hard spanking, a boy must work hard at not doing his homework. Yep, Equivalent Exchange was not just a theory, it was the law of nature. That was what lead to alchemists trying to perform a certain taboo: Human transmutation.

| Transmutation involves giving up an item for something of equal value. For example, you take a bar of gold and use alchemy to give it up for, say, a small atom of platinum. That's how it works, basically.

| Siarnaq was the result of its creator's sister transmuting himself with a machine. It was an accident, for she was actually attempting to turn that machine into a working one. The accident occured when her elbow was slightly touching the edge of the transmutation circle. When the process ended, Siarnaq lost every bit of humanity in her.
