Release information

  • This card was released as a promotional card with different artwork by Ken Sugimori. In Japan, it was available through the "Please Trade" Campaign that ran from February to July in 1998. This variant card was never released in English.
  • Later Japanese versions were released as part of the "Pokémon Best Collection" CD.
  • This card was also reprinted in the Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection reprint sets, which were only released outside of Japan.

Trivia

  • The Venusaur included in the "Pokémon Best Collection" CD has the Pikachu Records logo in place of an Expansion symbol.

Origin

Venusaur's attack, SolarBeam, is a move in the Pokémon games. It can be learned by Ivysaur, and Venusaur at high levels. Although it does not require a turn to charge like its in-game counterpart, it does require a lot of Grass Energy to use. The card's Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue Versions, though it is slightly reworded.
