Templates are added by uding the curly brackets ({{}}) like they're used in normal wikilinks, around the template name. Additional components of the template may be altered as well.

For example, a very simple link template, like {{p}}, for which there is only one variable, would be altered simply by using it as such: {{p|Pikachu}}. This would link to Pikachu (Pokémon) with the text of "Pikachu". This can, and should, be used for any Pokémon species there is, from Bulbasaur to Arceus. There are a great many other templates just like this, for use with moves, abilities, routes, types, and even TCG-specific things.

A more complex link template, such as the {{TM}} and {{HM}} templates, has two variables, and is used as {{TM|01|Focus Punch}}, in that order. This links to TM01 (Focus Punch), so that you can list the TM as an item.

A very complex template, of course, would be one of the infobox templates. Many of those have too many variables to list, and therefore, I won't demonstrate one here. Examples of how they are used, however, appear on many pages, especially those for game and anime characters and even the Pokémon species themselves. I'd recommend seeing the project page that covers the template in question (for example, Project Routes covers the {{RouteInfo}} template).

The simplest template, however, is one that just puts something in. Most of these are navigation templates, such as {{Kanto}}, which are included on the pages they link to to link them to other pages, and which I won't put here, again, because it would cause incorrect categorization of your talk page as a location in Kanto.

Anyway, questions? Bring 'em to me. I've got an ear open. --TTEchidna 06:46, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
