What Bulbapedia is!

Not a Wikia. We take great offense at being implied to be allied with them. So much offense that yes, I must personally address you on your talkpage.

Bulbapedia is a wiki, a website set-up so that it can be edited easily in a very WYSIWYG format, rather than standard HTML, with a layout mainly generated in the backend as a setup for the pages, rather than having to code entire pages from scratch. Wikia is also set up with many wikis, as the for-profit arm of the Wikimedia Foundation, which runs Wikipedia and the MediaWiki project separately as nonprofits.

Now, yes, we do use MediaWiki software, as that is the most familiar type, and provides the most balanced workability - hey, Wikipedia's doing pretty well with it, and are the testing grounds for each new release, so why not? But at the same time, that is our only relation to them.

We have in fact allied with others against Wikia's lack of care for its community, which resulted in NIWA.

Trivia
