AmourShipping (Japanese: サトセレ SatoSere) is the belief that Serena and Ash belong in a romantic relationship. The name is derived from the French word "amour", meaning "love". It was chosen as the name because the Kalos region is inspired by France (known for its romantic atmosphere) and Serena having a canonical crush on Ash. This is established early in the series and carries on through to its conclusion.
Anime
Pre-Series
Prior to the series beginning, Serena and Ash originally met at a Pokémon Summer Camp, which was hosted by Professor Oak. One day, while at the camp, Serena got lost in a nearby forest and was startled by a Poliwag, falling over and hurting her knee. Ash, who was looking for the same Poliwag spotted Serena and noticing her knee injury, pulled out a handkerchief and wrapped it, saying that it is a good-luck charm and that the pain would go away. However, when Serena's knee continued to hurt, Ash told her "Don't give up till it's over" and helped her up before escorting her out of the forest. Afterwards, she returned to Kalos, bringing along the handkerchief and the memory of her meeting with Ash.
XY Series
After seeing Ash on television trying to calm a raging Garchomp, Serena decides to start on her own journey, hoping to meet up with Ash so they can journey Kalos together. When she catches up with Ash, Clemont and Bonnie, Ash initially doesn't remember her, however after some time and prompting, his memory of "the girl in the straw hat" returns.
