Rulings
- If a player uses the Frenzied Gouging attack but it is unable to Knock Out the opponent's Active Pokémon (eg. through the effect of Mist Energy or Toedscruel ex's "Protective Mycelium" Ability), the Roaring Moon ex using the attack will not do 200 damage to itself.[1]
- For the Calamity Storm attack and how it interacts with various Stadium cards:
- If a player uses Roaring Moon ex's Calamity Storm attack while Lake Acuity is in play, and the player chooses to discard the Stadium, damage taken by the Defending Pokémon with any or Energy attached will still be reduced by 20, as the base damage is calculated before the choice of discarding the Stadium is made.[2]
- If a player uses Roaring Moon ex's Calamity Storm attack while Temple of Sinnoh is in play, and the Defending Pokémon has a Gift Energy attached, and the player chooses to discard the Stadium such that the increased damage causes the Defending Pokémon to be Knocked Out, Gift Energy becomes in effect (since Temple of Sinnoh is no longer in play) and the opponent may draw cards until they have 7 cards in their hand.[2]
- If a player uses Roaring Moon ex's Calamity Storm attack on the opponent's Active Pokémon that doesn't have a Rule Box, and Neutralization Zone is in play, the player may choose to discard the Neutralization Zone, but the Defending Pokémon without a Rule Box still won't receive any damage, as the base damage is calculated before the choice of discarding the Stadium is made.[2][3]
- For interactions between the Calamity Storm attack, the "Resolute Heart" Ability of Pikachu ex from Surging Sparks when the Pikachu ex is at full HP, and Lively Stadium:
- If Lively Stadium is in play, such that an opponent's Pikachu ex's HP becomes 230, and the player uses Roaring Moon ex's Calamity Storm attack and discards the Lively Stadium, Pikachu ex receives 220 damage. On this condition, since Pikachu ex has 230 HP and receives 220 damage, its Resolute Heart Ability is no longer in effect (as its HP is no longer considered full). Thus, once Lively Stadium is removed from play, Pikachu ex will have its HP reduced to 200, and with 220 damage on it, it will be Knocked Out.[2][3]
- However, if damage done by the Calamity Storm attack is increased to 230 or more (eg. using Vitality Band), Resolute Heart becomes in effect as the Calamity Storm damage would have Knocked Out the Pikachu ex. Thus, once Lively Stadium is discarded, Pikachu ex remains in play with a remaining HP of 10 (effectively having 190 damage on it once all the effects have resolved).[2][3]
- If a player uses Roaring Moon ex's Calamity Storm attack on an opponent's Active Stage 2 Pokémon with 330 HP, and Gravity Mountain is in play (such that the Defending Stage 2 Pokémon's HP is reduced to 300), the Defending Stage 2 Pokémon will not be Knocked Out even with 320 damage on it,[2] as the check for Knock Outs happens after Gravity Mountain is discarded.
