OK. Can we PLEASE talk about how Ultra Necrozma is an Ultra Beast, cuz the GX thing is red? THE TCG DID SOMETHING USEFUL!!! I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! - unsigned comment from MemeMan123 (talkcontribs)

It was also called an Ultra Beast in the anime I believe? Well, not Ultra Necrozma directly, but base Necrozma. Eridanus (talk) 17:57, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Origins and GX Attacks

From the templates for our articles on Light that Burns the Sky and this card:

Comparing names
Light That Burns the Sky Sky-Scorching Light-GX
Japanese Name 天焦がす滅亡の光 めつぼうのひかりGX
Japanese Translation Heaven-Scorching Light of Destruction Light of DestructionGX
Japanese Transliteration Ten Kogasu Metsubō no Hikari N/A (attacks aren't transliterated here)

Hey, why is it that our own translation is going "this card's GX attack is a short version of the the name of Ultra Necrozma's Z-Move in Japanese", but because the English name isn't an exact match, it shouldn't go in the Origin section? Doesn't Bulbapedia usually work the other way around, where a Japanese match not reflected in English counts and a English match not reflected in Japanese only partially counts?

I think that GX attacks being comparable to Z-Moves makes this comparison valid. (Notably, while a search for an official statement turns up empty, we do say that GX attacks are comparable to Z-Moves in the Z-Move article. And we'd be remiss to not mention that Z-Crystals in the TCG allow for using GX attacks, which makes the comparison all the more apt.) I also think that Light that Burns the Sky in English shortens poorly, so having "Sky", "Light", and an substitute for "Burns" (as an adjective instead of a verb) makes things work in a way a hypothetical "Burn the Sky-GX" or "Light Burning Sky-GX" probably doesn't. In short, I believe given this, it is correct to say Sky-Scorching Light-GX is a representation of Light that Burns the Sky, only that it fits in a textbox. Salmancer (talk) 15:04, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
