Overgrow

I know Sprigatito glowed green during its battle against Ceruledge in HZ006, was its ability officially confirmed?--BigDocFan, Junior Admin Bulbapedia (talk) 22:06, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

I'd say it is --Nayfaan (talk)(contributions) 22:22, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Do not guess abilities. Unless it was explicitly stated, its ability remains unknown.--ForceFire 05:33, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Amethio says "They got stronger once driven into a corner, huh?" directly after Sprigatito and Fuecoco glow, which is how the effect of Overgrow and Blaze is usually described. Along with the visual of them glowing being identical to previous depictions of Overgrow and Blaze, it seems really heavily implied? It doesn't seem like the same standard is in place when it comes to moves, either - the page for Draco Meteor, as well as the episode's plot synopsis claim that the shiny Rayquaza in HZ006 uses Draco Meteor, but no one commands it to use Draco Meteor, nor is it stated that the move it's using is Draco Meteor - this is an assumption. Why is assuming moves seemingly not against Bulbapedia policy, yet assuming abilities is? --Meeper12346 (talk) 18:10, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
I think the anime made the scene very clear but it's that usual discussion...
And it's not like these Pokemon's other ability options leave room for doubt.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 20:25, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
With Draco Meteor, the move animation matches that which has previously been seen so that is why it was confirmed.--BigDocFan, Junior Admin Bulbapedia (talk) 20:28, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
Overgrow and Blaze too. In Blaze's case, I would add, we even had an entire anime series that revolved around how this ability works. LOL.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 20:34, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
The animation matches that of Overgrow and Blaze too, being a green or red glow surrounding the Pokemon when their health gets low - that, and Amethio's quote directly after makes it pretty clear to me that the glow is meant to represent Overgrow / Blaze. I totally agree that the move Rayquaza uses in HZ006 is very clearly Draco Meteor, and this is easily confirmed by just comparing the move's animation to its previous appearances - it's just that if comparing the animation to previous appearances makes it obvious that the move Rayquaza uses is Draco Meteor, then you can also compare the glow that Sprigatito and Fuecoco undertake to previous uses of Overgrow and Blaze (such as in AG191 where both abilities are shown) and come to the same conclusion. Just seems confusing to me that this method of deduction is fine for moves, but not abilities.--Meeper12346 (talk) 21:11, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
I'll have to agree with Meeper12346 on this one. --Nayfaan (talk)(contributions) 00:50, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
It was hinted at/implied, but that doesn't make it an outright confirmation. Neither Blaze, Overgrow, Torrent, or Swarm would have unique animations. A glowing affect is too simple of an animation to pinpoint a specific one.--ForceFire 06:18, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
I totally get the need to avoid speculation on Bulbapedia, but I feel like in this case the implication is so heavy that I think it's about as evident as it can be without someone just stating the name of the abilities. If it were just the glow I would agree that there's nothing definitive there, but it's the glow in conjunction with Amethio's quote directly after it occurs that I feel can be taken as indirect confirmation.--Meeper12346 (talk) 05:14, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
Back to this discussion: should the fact that Sprigatito using scratch/quick attack without changing into normal type exclude the possibility that it has protean as its ability? That would mean it could only have overgrow as its ability. --Nayfaan (talk)(contributions) 06:23, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
To be fair, with Protean we've never actually seen it used in the show before so it's hard to make a call on what it would visually look like. Whether Sprigatito's type is changing or not, it's hard to say. I am still in support of HZ006 confirming the abilities of both Sprigatito and Fuecoco, though. We don't know if they'll create a new Ability specifically for anime, like how they made Ash-Greninja before it was added to the game. Kikugi (talk) 08:39, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
