Revision as of 01:47, 18 March 2012

The February 14th date was no coincidence, you know. Garlic Man 04:10, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Obviously. TTEchidna 01:03, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Unless I am mistaken, Metroid Wiki is part of the NIWA too, but it only has about 100 pages. --Chickasaurus 21:15, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Never mind; I just checked the official NIWA website and it isn't on there, although SMB wiki seems to suggest that it is by having it on their NIWI sidebar. --Chickasaurus 21:18, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Sounds to me like Metroid Wiki's a NIWA aspirier, much like how Pokémon Central Wiki (Italian) is an Encyclopaediae Pokémonis aspirer (granted, one that's far more along in the process). Granted, Metroid Wiki's nowhere near ready for full consideration (only 88 articles at the time of this posting), but they're still at an early stage (they only set up shop on January 27 of this year) and could stand for assistance for anyone knowledgable about Metroid...--Shiningpikablu252 00:16, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Wikitroid

Isn't the Metroid wiki called Wikitroid? I visited that site and it calls itself "Wikitroid." Why is Bulbapedia call it "Metroid Wiki?" That's not the name of the wiki. How would you like it if someone called Bulbapedia "Pokemon Wiki?" Do you people ever go to Wikitroid? If someone is going to create a page called Metroid Wiki, it's moving to Wikitroid. Okay, not moving pages from Bulbapedia to another wiki, but simply renaming the page.--SeanWheeler 01:03, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Wikitroid is the evil, wikia wiki Metroid wiki. All Wikia wikis suck horrifically. The users of Niwa are creating a good, unbiased, clean Metroid wiki, simply entitled Metroid wiki. MaverickNate 01:11, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Don't insult Wikia. Wikia has more wikis than NIWA. I happen to like Wikia, so don't call my favorite wikis evil. I bet NIWA doesn't have a Star Wars Wiki. Wikia has Wookieepedia. Wikia covers more than NIWA so don't call it evil. Wikis aren't evil.SeanWheeler 14:06, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

NIWA was created, by our Webmaster Archaic, about a month ago. The sheer quality makes NIWA so much better. One of the foundations for NIWA is Bulbapedia and Bulbagarden, so, by insulting NIWa, you might as well be signing your ticket out of here, since you surely don't appreciate being here. MaverickNate 14:16, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
NIWA was created to avoid Wikia and to be better than Wikia. Wikia treats fandoms like crap and like businesses, we aim to avoid that. ... And why would a Nintendo network have a Star Wars wiki? 8| ▫▪Ťïňắ 15:43, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Can I just add that NIWA is for Nintendo wikis, and not for stuff like Star Wars? Yeah, just wanted to throw that out. As for me, I don't have a grudge against wikia too, too much. A very few (keyword: few) wikia wikis are good or okay, but they're a rarity. Mudkipchan 18:18, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I didn't realize Bulbapedia had a rivalry with Wikia. Well, at least I like Bulbapedia and Super Mario Wiki, but still, don't insult Wikia, even if it's NIWA's competition. Remember when Nintendo and Sega were rivals and then Sega let Nintendo put Sonic the Hedgehog in Brawl? And what about the Mario and Sonic crossovers at the 2008 and 2010 olympics? That is good sportsmanship.SeanWheeler 18:05, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Um... what. This isn't about sportsmanship at all. Not everything plays out nice and we all go to a tea party and everything magically is okay. There would be no way that we would team up with Wikia or anything like that (legal issues, copyrights, etc). ._. ▫▪Ťïňắ 18:21, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Okay, maybe Star Wars is a bad example. Maybe I should have used SmashWiki as an example. But still, we should move on before this turns into a forums thread. SeanWheeler 18:33, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Unfortunately, Sean, Bulbapedia's problems with Wikia go back a long way. Several times they've tried to buy us out for a pittance, offering Archaic $1000 for the place. Heck, they did it just a few weeks ago, despite the fact that we'd already set up NIWA, for wikis independent of their empire of crap.
All in all, yeah, some Wikia wikis are well-maintained, such as Touhou Wiki, however, the problem lies with the management of Wikia itself, allowing for any idiot to set up a crap wiki, steal information and images, and pretend to be a quality wiki. The individual wikis may be made by fans, but Wikia's thing is that it's all about the money. Ads everywhere, all for profit from the fans that never goes back to the fans. Know those contests we have every so often on the forums? That's where our ad money goes, if we have a surplus from the cost of the five massive servers that Bulbagarden requires. I make $0 from Bulbapedia. Wikia, however, is run with the primary point being making money, the secondary point being popularity, and the third point, probably later, actually going with what the fans want.
NIWA is planning on constant expansion. Encouraging wikis to be independent of the Wikia empire, even if it's more costly in the short-term, is better for a site in the long run. TTEchidna 22:16, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I just joined SmashWiki and I wasn't charged anything. Which Wiki did Archiac try to join and what did he have to pay for? SeanWheeler 21:45, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

They're not talking about paying to join. They're saying that for all the money earned from the numerous ads on Wikia, not a cent of it goes back to the users; Bulbapedia, on the other hand, uses its ad money on server upgrades, contests, and other expenses for the betterment of our site and our community. Also there's the deal with Wikia perennially trying to buy out Bulbapedia, as well as a few cases of their wikis dealing with Pokémon blatantly plagiarizing our articles. --AndyPKMN 14:41, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi, Because of Wikia's new Fail Skin (which is all about the ads and making money for the staff), a lot of wikis have joined the Anti-Wikia Alliance* (Which I founded). The Wikis that joined are planning to leave wikia because of all the ads the staff are forcing on us there. Including SeanWheeler's precious SmashWiki. --AWA 00:51, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

SmashWiki

Isn't SmashWiki now part of NIWA? SeanWheeler 00:47, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

It is indeed. Or to be more specific, the SmashWiki that left Wikia is a member. What is left on Wikia now effectively a dried husk. Archaic 01:49, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Wait a minute...

Hey, i noticed that most NIWA members put the NIWA site in their affiliates section, right? Well, guess what, Sonic Wiki put the NIWA in it's affiliates! Is it going to join? I doubt it, but u never know. Maybe it is the member that is coming out on Nov 30th? ----Desukaan563's userpage has a Value Formula to measure Pokémon worth (talk) 03:44, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Off-topic. Please use this talk page for improving the article, rather than speculating on future NIWA members. —darklordtrom 05:49, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

F-Zero Wiki

There really needs to be a non-Wikia F-Zero Wiki... --Wildgoosespeeder 01:46, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

There is a non wikia wiki of F-Zero. --Pokemaster97 01:53, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
That explains why I don't see that in a Google search as a first result. --Wildgoosespeeder 07:17, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
It's not the first result, but it is on that page. I see it as the third result. --SnorlaxMonster 09:52, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Seriously

We don't need to have a bulbapedia page for each NIWA wiki. It only creates incomplete articles due to the fact thatthere isn't much about Pokémon that is related to any of the NIWA wikis. Wildgoose-The friendly goose in town! 21:16, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Due to the nature and namesake of the articles they wouldn't be about Pokémon, they would be about the wiki that the article represents. --Spriteit 01:01, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Kingdom Hearts Wiki?

Just curious, does anyone know why the Kingdom Hearts Wiki (khwiki.net) is not listed as a member of NIWA? Their main page states that they have recently joined... Am I not aware of something? Pkmn Trainer Red 01:40, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Kingdom Hearts Wiki are members of SEIWA, which is an alliance of independent Wikis focusing on series related to Square Enix. They are affiliated with NIWA, but are not considered "full members". --Chickasaurus 01:45, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure they are just affiliated with NIWA, not a true member. Members are Nintendo produced wikis. --Pokemaster97 01:47, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
