It is a cardinal rule of the fandom that Anime =/= Games, so I find it very unlikely that a Bellsprout in the first season of the Anime inspired the Lightningrod ability in the third generation of games. The anime is much more likely illustrating the Grass-type's ''resistance to electric attacks''. This is given more weight by Jeanette's explanation during the very scene in the episode, and by the fact that Bellsprout did not actually ''draw the lightning towards itself''. :Still an interesting piece of trivia. Remember, Grass-types may be ''resistant'', but Pikachu had ''no effect at all'' on the Bellsprout. Which isn't really the case with Lightningrod, but hey, {{TCG ID|Base Set|Blastoise|2}}'s Rain Dance Pokémon Power preceded the move... Lightningrod?

It is a cardinal rule of the fandom that Anime =/= Games, so I find it very unlikely that a Bellsprout in the first season of the Anime inspired the Lightningrod ability in the third generation of games. The anime is much more likely illustrating the Grass-type's resistance to electric attacks. This is given more weight by Jeanette's explanation during the very scene in the episode, and by the fact that Bellsprout did not actually draw the lightning towards itself.
