Actually...

This glitch DOES exist.... Sort of. The guy got a few steps wrong from what I can see, but it is extremely similar to a glitch detailed here. I'm Missingno. Master, and I approve this message. 10:47, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Well mate, you are talking about the Celebi Trick at GlitchCityLaboratories. The Trick has been found by Paco81. His topic has now a size of 17 pages. I have been the one who translated the trick you are referring to into german. Have a look at page 16 at Paco81's topic. My name there is "Hundemon Despotar". But please, have a look at page 11 (if the forum is fixed), there you will find the Egg Trick. These Celebi Tricks are similiar to each other, I know. But the Egg Trick neither changes the Pokemon's name nor the ID number. This is why I prefer the Egg Trick. The Trick is working for 100% as it has been posted at GlitchCity (made by Paco81) and I succeded in doing in on german Crystal Version. If you like to style my article, please do that. No Pokédex entry?

I heard that with the Celebi egg trick, you don't get a pokedex entry for Celebi. Is this true?

Also, does doing this cause any other side effects to the game? What happens to the 4 pokemon deposited in step 8 and the pokemon withdrawn in step 9? Do they get deleted or glitched up? Blueapple128 17:46, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

HM's

This article mentions a way of getting glitch items HM08 and HM09 in Gold/Silver. What do these non-existent HM's do? Are there moves tied to them in Generation II or does attempting their use break the game? I'm curious about these glitch items. ~ Male Gardevoir

I have a question about the link of HM08. In the article, HM08 is given a link, yet the link leads into a short article about HM08 in Generations III and IV without any mention of the fact that it is a glitch item. There should be mention of this fact in the article or a new article titled 'HM08 (Glitch Item)' should be made. Attacks of hatched Pokemon?

According to some Gameshark codes for Pokemon GSC, everything about the egg is shifted back four slots in memory. This causes the third attack to shift to the Pokemon species, and the fourth attack to shift to the Held item. If this is true, then the hatched Pokemon's attacks should correspond to its ID number and the first four bytes of its current EXP.

Like this: The hatched Pokemon's ID number used to be 54321. In hexadecimal this is 0xD431. So the hatched Pokemon has its first two attacks as 0xD4(Mean Look) and 0x31(Fury Attack). The hatched Pokemon used to hatch with 125 EXP (at Level 5). In hexadecimal this is 0x00007D. Taking the first four bytes only, it has no third or fourth attack because they are at 0x00 (blank).

I don't want to put this in the article because I can't test it myself. If someone could test this, that would be great. Blueapple128 00:44, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Extra touches...

I signed up here to mention that there are still a couple of flaws in this article, mostly clarity, that caused me a lot of trouble/experimentation whilst attempting this glitch in order to obtain the GS Ball. Normally I would have made the edit immediately, but because I haven't currently the ability to test the latter half of my assumptions personally it seems like a better idea to bring it up under the Discussion first.

Before anything I recommend making ?????'s role a bit clearer, either in this article or in its original article. I made at least 8 bad clones before finding out that I was doing it correctly, and they were indeed bad clones. I was able to successfully complete the glitch with one of them. I cloned a female level 10 Magikarp and the result was a level 0 female Magikarp with an EMPTY (no question marks) name space. Its name on the Stats screen was ????? and, when withdrawn, was shown as a single question mark. I imagine it would be beneficial to those who have never done this glitch before if this were a bit more specific in the article, as I had assumed that the clone with the empty namespace was not a bad clone because no question marks appeared in its name in the PC box. You also may have noticed my mentioning that both the prototype and the bad clone were female - either this disproves that the bad clone is always the opposite gender, a bad clone is always female, it depends on the species of Pokemon, and/or it works differently in Gold/Silver than it does in Crystal.

I used this glitch in Silver version using two Ledybas with the moveset Comet Punch, Supersonic, Swift and Reflect, which was supposed to result in a Magikarp holding a GS Ball which I could then use to encounter Celebi normally. Unfortunately I wasn't aware that the GS Ball didn't exist in Gold/Silver, and instead got a Teru-Sama. I'm not sure which one in particular, but it appeared in my Use item slot and had no effect when speaking to Kurt. I theorize I may be able to turn it into/use it as a GS Ball if I trade a pokemon holding it over to Crystal version, but I can't confirm this at the moment - the important thing here is to either define in the article that this glitch is meant specifically for Crystal version or, preferably, since this glitch can be used for species and items other than Celebi, note that Reflect only gives you the GS Ball in Crystal and the Teru-Sama in Gold/Silver. If you can trade this item over to Crystal and use it as a GS Ball, this would probably be of note as well. In any case, I've done my part. Xelrog T. Apocalypse 22:46, 13 September 2009 (UTC)


Technically, it works the same, it's just that the GS Ball wasn't implemented in GS, which means that the hex slot used for the GS Ball in Crystal was a simple Teru-Sama in GS... and even if you get the GS Ball using this method, the bit that makes Kurt check your inventory for it isn't active... so, tough luck for the GS Ball method.

Big fix

Can this article have a complete do over, so instead of telling the player how to get Celebi, it tells the player how to get and choose the Pokémon you can get from this glitch. We should go into detail, like how Old man glitch isn't about how to get Missingno. with a sub-section for others, or Item duplication glitch for Rare Candy. --SnorlaxMonster 10:29, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Instead of leaving Celebi in the daycare until level 2, couldn't you take it out at level 1 and perform the Experience Underflow glitch to get a level 100 Pokémon? higejolly 12:07, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Rare Candies

Having two Rare Candies when performing the glitch and giving them to the L0 Celebi enables it to be used normally on the go and it also allows for the Celebi to learn all 4 starting moves (Confusion, Leech Seed, Recover and Heal Bell) at L1. This has been tried by myself and it's confirmed to work. Rush2802 23:11, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
