Actually, the Johtodex listed quite a few Pokemon native only to Kanto in the games (Such as Grimer, Murkrow, and Houndour). There's not that much difference between the Pokemon populations of Kanto and Johto, but there is one. --Zeta 05:11, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

The Johtodex listed all 251 Pokémon known at the time. It was not really a 'regional' Pokédex at all. In the game, the Pokédex had 2 options: by Evolution or by Number. Selecting by Number gave you the national Pokédex. Selecting by Evolution gave you the 251 Pokémon of the time rearranged so all the evolutuonary lines fit, and in a more universal order. It didn't even have numbers, they were just listed. In essence, it was merely an updated national Pokédex that is now obsolete. MK 19:29, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

It did have one thing in common with the regional Pokedexes. It listed the Pokemon generally in the order you'd encounter them playing through GSC. With Pokemon that don't appear obtainable in there being listed last - like the Kanto starters. --Zeta 20:16, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

That, and well, there couldn't really be any more options anyway. I mean, it's the same as the Hoenn Dex, only they gave numbers to that to discourage people thinking "Okay, we have Pikachu at #25, where can we get #24 and #23, too?" like how the Johto dex was structured with keeping the National numbers. It only did so because everyone was available. Hoenn didn't, and Shin'ō's just keeping Hoenn's tradition. Heck, if Hoenn's dex included them all as of Gen III, it would be in essence an updated National Dex. In actuality, that's what the "by landscape-thing" was in the FR/LG dex, an updated version. Only difference there is that the Johto Dex was ID'd in-game as the New Pokédex, with the National as Old Pokédex. And though GSC went back to Kanto, the New Dex was based off of Johto's starters, like Kanto's, Hoenn's, and Shin'ō's are off of their own. If anything, the Johto dex is a precursor to the idea of a full-out regional Pokédex, because it included all of the known Pokémon at the time. But it's still pretty much a regional dex, even if it doesn't explicitly exclude the Pokémon not obtainable without the Time Capsule, like Mewtwo or the Legendary Birds. Exactly. The GSC Pokédex is more appropriately called the "Johto-Kanto Continental Pokédex as of Generation II by location". FR/LG's Pokédex by Habitat was an update to this. So, we should maybe add an asterisk next to the Pokémon you can only obtain from a Time Capsule, etc. MK 07:32, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Sinnoh Pokédex Omissions

The only reason I can think of for omitting so many new Pokémon from the Sinnoh Dex is the fact that the National Dex is obtained by seeing all the Pokémon in the Sinnoh Dex, rather than by beating the Elite Four, and presumably They wanted to minimise the effort required to achieve this...
