This is a well-known fish in Japan, and an inhabitant of the Deep Sea Abyss like Huntail (gulper eel). I'm amazed the name origin doesn't say anything about the abyss, either. Byss? Seriously? That's far too obscure even for Pokemon. Huntail and Gorebyss are both based on ABYSS dwelling fish.
