does anybody have a caterpie emerald shiny picture, or should I upload a stationary one?Pokemonguy1 05:24, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Rōmaji

On this wiki, most Pokémon pages have the trademarked Romanization, rather than the Rōmaji. So, Japanese "Caterpie" is actually supposed to be "Kyatapī". Can someone please change this? Or sometwo? Or somemore? I'll work on it also. Sincerely, Jét55

Er, you're confused in both intent and wording. Yes, we use the trademarked Romanization, not the Rōmaji. "NYARTH" is what shows up on Japanese merchandise, not "Nyāsu," so we use Nyarth.—Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 01:40, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh, okay. Sorry! --Jayt55 14:22, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Since it seems this can confuse some users, why not put both? Zurqoxn 20:32, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Nah. I'd bet only a few know katakana, and you're only the second or third user to bring this up.--RexRacer 20:34, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Just one question... is the Romanized name for Clefairy "Pippi" or "Piipi"? --Pojaymon
I don't know a WHOLE lot about Japanese and Romanization, but looking at the Kana, it's spelled out as Pippi. Hope that helps. --Malunis T 06:51, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Trivia maybe?

Caterpie has appeared in every Generation, right? Is this notable in the trivia? I'm not sure how many Pokémon share this fact. Bulbajer 23:53, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Name Origin

I have a theory that Cater"pie" (pronounced like "pea"), Meta"pod", and "Butter"free are part of a food-themed naming convention (particularly that of peas), but my editions stating this as possibility were reversed. To a lesser extent (not present in my edits), "Cater" (pronounced as in the act of food catering) and "pie" (pronounced as the dessert) also have culinary implications, and (reaching further around) "Meta" could refer to one's "meta"bolism. I also once received "free" food at a Burger King, a known sponsor. Am I alone? Also, why will no girls date me? --GrowlitheandEkans 03:42, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

opinion.-ForceFire 04:00, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
I think it's more a matter of informed speculation; much like a lot of Pokemon Origin and Name Origin information listed on the site. When a reason is listed for a theory, it is no longer opinion. Opinion would be more like if I'd used the words "probably" or "it is likely." Wouldn't you agree? --GrowlitheandEkans 05:39, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
If you're the only one saying this "theory" and no one else is or is agreeing with you, it is opinion.--ForceFire 06:05, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure I understand your authority on this issue. Are you proposing that "theories" are "facts supported by more than one person and/or many?" My theory is accompanied by evidence. I thought that was at least worth proposing it as a possible explanation for the naming convention. By your applied definition of "opinion" and use of "quotes" around the word "theory," one could argue that you do not own a "dictionary." That would be a "theory." I feel I'm being "bullied" by you because you do not like peas. Both my feeling toward your behavior and your distaste for peas are "opinions."- unsigned comment from GrowlitheandEkans (talkcontribs)
Funny, the fourth definition of theory is "Opionion;Conjecture" in my dictionary.
What I'm saying is that you're the only saying this theory and no one else is supporting it, there also isn't enough evidence to the theory, therefore it is opinion. Besides, what does food have to do with the bugs? Caterpie is obviously based from Caterpillar and there are many evidence to this (what the Pokémon is based off for starters) and everyone supports this "theory". Also, it's not meant to be offensive....--ForceFire 06:37, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
I agree with GrowlitheandEkans. I am Darth Mewtwo... Fear me, and my team made entirely of Mewtwo!!! 23:32, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

worth for Trivia

It is the first Pokémon in NationalDex unable to learn any TM/HMs. - unsigned comment from Rajjoaby (talkcontribs)

Trivia and permission

I am suprised no one has taken notice of the fact that it is the first pokemon to appear and by index number to have a stat lowered through evolving. It is nt mentioned in Metapod's article either. Permission to add this content to its page? I am new, so be gentle. Jachi 12:33, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

An error in the trivia...

It says that it's impossible to beat the Generation I games with only a Caterpie, but can't you PP stall the ghost type opponents?Sumwun (talk) 20:48, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

No, the opponents have infinite PP in Generation I.--Den Zen 22:28, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I didn't know that.Sumwun (talk) 01:42, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
