A list of the mnemonics I use to memorize type effectivenesses.

But first, some notation.

  • a -> b
This means that a is super effective against b. It says nothing about what the relationship is between b and a.
  • a -< b
This means that a is not very effective against b. It says nothing about what the relationship is between b and a.
  • a -= b
This means that a is normally effective against b. It says nothing about what the relationship is between b and a.
  • a -x b
This means that a does not affect b at all. It says nothing about what the relationship is between b and a.
  • a >> b
This means that a is super effective against b, and b is not very effective against a. The classic unilateral superiority, expressed in the Fire/Water/Grass type chart.
  • a <> b
This means that a and b are mutually super effective (this does not currently exist, except when the types are the same).
  • a == b
This means that a and b are neutral against each other. This means that the two types are completely unrelated.
  • a >< b
This means that a and b are mutually defensive.
  • a => b
This means that while a is super effective against b, b does not share the favour - a half-superiority.
  • a =< b
This means that while a is not very effective against b, b is still normally effective against a - a half-inferiority.
