Thoughts

Hey Neumannz, thanks for continuing to work on this page! Just a couple of things:

  • The devs have been recycling the teams that the characters are using, which means that I don't think it's necessary for us to list out the teams for each week. Also since the rosters are changing slightly each week, I feel this page will get too long. Instead I feel it would be best to list out all the possible teams available (which is two for each character). I can tell you've already been thinking of this with the A B tables going above. I feel the A B tables you have currently look a little clunky. Try to find something more tighter, or it might be better to just drop availability overall.
  • I haven't had a good long think about the parameters at the moment. Your table looks fine, though it may get a little too long later. An option is to put a show-hide function. However you should note that the order of the parameters is not that important because the battles can also be done in any order. These parameters are also being recycled so I feel there can be a more streamline way of showing this information.
  • Your current tables don't need all columns. Since it's not a template, you have the flexibility in dropping certain columns, such as Difficulty, and First-Time rewards.
  • I believe Lorelei has Dewgong rather than Seel IIRC.--Wowy(talk) 03:28, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
  • My thoughts about the teams is to end up with something along the lines of how the Battle Villa article handles the changing order of groups. It's trickey; we'd end up with five tables of trainer teams (each EF member + champion) and one for showing what the lineups are each week. I am definitely open to suggestions for designing the latter.
  • You're a bit wrong here; while you can challenge the EF members in any order, the order of parameters is actually fixed. In other words, if the Round 1 parameter is special damage reduction, that will be applied to whoever you challenge first out of the four options.
  • Yeah, I need to take a little time to redesign, I haven't had enough spare time to do much more than document the new lineups and paramenters so far, though.
  • You might be right, I'll double check. --Neumannz (talk) 01:35, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the prompt reply. I quite like the tables you've changed above. Just a couple of other points:
  • I'm aware that the order of parameters is fixed. What I meant was that, because the Elite Four can be battled in any order, the order of the parameters is no longer so important. For example, regardless of whether the special damage reduction parameter is round 1 or 3, the player can still use the parameter to defeat Lance if they want. Up to you if you feel that the order is important for the reader to know.
  • For the ABC table, it might be nicer to put all the characters in one row (i.e. Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha, Lance, Blue in one row). It might be a tad long, but it will become vertically too long with the current table I feel, and it'll much easier to read (or update).
  • The graded colours are nice, and I presume you've added them in to help identify the ABC more easily in the table above. However, I feel that the colours B and C are too similar and I can't tell B from C in the ABC table. You can try finding different colours to use, though I don't know if the added effort is necessarily worth it.--Wowy(talk) 09:40, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
I added a new version of the trainer schedule table under the previous versions. I also attempted to make the parameter schedule table collapsible, but I'm not sure if I set it up properly; the collapsing isn't consistent for me, and I don't know how to get the column widths to line up with the headers when it's like this. I don't suppose you know someone more familiar with working with collapsible tables?
I also switched the color set I was using with the contest stat colors, so I'm hoping it's easier to read. --Neumannz (talk) 21:07, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Took a bit of trial and error because the collapsing wouldn't really work on preview mode. But it seems I've got the collapsing right. If you transfer all this to the user page, it should be close to mainspacing.--Wowy(talk) 09:57, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

  • Since we know from the second round of Master Mode that the opponent options and rewards are fixed for now, it's reasonable to add the above to the article --Wowy(talk) 05:21, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Page split

This page is currently the eighth largest page on the site, so I think it's long overdue for a split. We can split Pasio Special Stadium and Victory Road onto their own pages fairly easily, since they're effectively separate game modes. I feel like the info for each region's stadium should be on a separate page as well - I'd love to add information about the music used in each stadium, for example, since the Champion Stadium remixes are some of the most unique ones in the game. Thoughts? Storm Aurora (talk) 02:29, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Subpages sound like a good idea to me. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 13:25, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
I've been slowly working on this split over the last few months. I've got drafts of Pasio Special Stadium, Victory Road, and the Alola Challenge created; they're not 100% complete, but they should at least give a good idea of what I'm imagining the split pages will look like. I'd love to get some feedback on them.
One particular point that I'm unsure about is the name of the Victory Road page—I created it as Victory Road (Masters) because that's how all Masters-exclusive stuff is disambiguated. However, I realized later that most Victory Roads are disambiguated by the name of the region they're in, with the game only being used if there are two Victory Roads in the same region. So, should it be disambiguated as Victory Road (Pasio) for consistency with other Victory Roads, or Victory Road (Masters) for consistency with other Masters pages? Storm Aurora (talk) 07:04, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
The Victory Roads that are disambiguated by region are all locations. I do not think of Victory Road in Masters as a location, so I think applying (Pasio) is not the correct choice. I think (Masters) is more sensible, because I think it's a storyline. However, the difference is super fuzzy, as it could well be a temporary location, so it is all up to interpretation. (The script I checked used the phrase "on Victory Road" for instance.) Salmancer (talk) 14:03, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
I'm fairly certain Victory Road is an actual location on Pasio (Blue: "But y'know what? Pasio's also got the perfect training ground for super champions... Victory Road! There, you can really get a good understanding of how battles work... So maybe you should give it a shot!"). However, the article as it is now really only covers the Victory Road storyline, not Victory Road as a location. So, I think I'm also leaning towards (Masters), unless we want to add information about it like it's a location (such as adding {{Infobox location}}. Storm Aurora (talk) 20:55, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

(resetting indent)Okie-dokey, I've completed pretty much all my drafts of the split pages. I have an example of what the main page will look like after the split here, which links to the drafts for all the split pages. Aside from Victory Road, which uses some templates that are still being polished, I think they're all complete. The biggest changes are 1) the addition of a table on the main page that lists when each challenge has been available, 2) tweaking color schemes to use the region colors and/or the new Masters colors where applicable, and 3) listing trainer teams by weakness instead of by an arbitrarily assigned letter. If you have any feedback on those items (or anything else you notice), I'd love to hear it! Storm Aurora (talk) 01:42, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
