The second set in the Pokémon Mezastar Super Tag series was released on September 16, 2021 and consists of 70 tags. It is the sixth set overall.
Information
The second set of the Super Tag series focused on the Galarian forms of the legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres at its launch, each of which appeared as Grade 6 Superstar Pokémon. A number of high-Grade Pokémon supporting various attack-boosting mechanics were included in this set—those capable of Mega Evolution included a Grade 6 Kangaskhan and Grade 5 Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert. Superstar Pokémon Kommo-o and Snorlax, as well as Star Pokémon Grimmsnarl and Nidoqueen, were all able to Dynamax. Grade 6 Pokémon Greninja and Zeraora both had access to a Z-Move, as did Grade 5 Alolan Ninetales. Three Grade 5 Star Pokémon also supported the Super Tag mechanic introduced in the previous set: Machamp, Alakazam, and Obstagoon. The two fused forms of Kyurem, Black Kyurem and White Kyurem, rounded off the Grade 6 Pokémon available in the set. Also featured were a number of Generation VIII lines and the evolutionary families of the Generation III first partner Pokémon, completing the representation of all eight first partner Pokémon families (at the time) in Pokémon Mezastar.
Legacy tags (Japanese: レガシータグ) were a new feature introduced in this set, which depict high-Grade Pokémon from past sets. Starting October 21, 2021, Legacy tag Marks could randomly appear in the middle of the screen when stations were in use, indicating that a Legacy Pokémon could be encountered. In Get in Battle! mode, a Legacy Pokémon could suddenly appear at the start of a round and take the mantle of Boss Pokémon. Legacy Pokémon also had a chance of being captured in Get Now! mode. Legacy tags lack the collection number of the original tag, instead featuring a black square with a gold foil "L", are purple in color, and have embossed gold foil detailing on their artwork.
Five new Trainer and Battle opponents were initially able to challenge from this set, including two new Trainer classes and a new Star Trainer. Members of the Mezastar Club could redeem Battle Tickets for each opponent and unlock new customization options for their avatar. A special Battle Ticket was subsequently available through the club and could be used on machines between October 9 and November 24, 2021.[1] This ticket allowed players to challenge Mezastar Navigator J and coincided with the start of the Challenge from J! campaign, a ranked event in which the players with the top 100 scores could win a certificate. Participants who defeated J in battle would unlock a Mezastar TV logo T-shirt Fashion Item for their avatar. The campaign ran until November 3, 2021. Another Battle Ticket was available on the Mezastar Club for use on machines between November 5 and 24, 2021. This Amazing Trainer and Battle (Japanese: すごいトレーナーとバトル), as announced on the Mezastar TV YouTube channel,[2] allowed players to challenge Star Trainer Masahito as the first difficulty level 5 opponent. Masahito originally appeared as a Trainer and Battle opponent in the third set of the original series.
Three new Partner Pokémon were available to players with Memory tags from this set: Deino, Rookidee, and Rolycoly. Players using the Mezastar Club at any time during the duration of this set could redeem a digital Support Pokémon Ticket for a Resolute Form Keldeo. Physical Support Pokémon Tickets featuring Reshiram and Zekrom were also available in Shogakukan publications. Mezastar Club members could also acquire a Present Ticket for a Superstar Sensor (Japanese: スーパースターセンサー) between October 1 and 13, 2021. Once scanned on a machine, this item could randomly highlight an area at the start of Get in Battle! mode, indicating players would have a chance of encountering a specific Superstar Pokémon there. The effect of the Superstar Sensor would remain active for a limited period. Club members had another chance to acquire the Present Ticket between November 3 and 17, 2021.
