Professor Phorus (Japanese: リン博士 Dr. Rin) is a Pokémon Professor who appears in Pokémon UNITE. As the head of the Aeos Research Institute, she studies Aeos energy, a powerful energy that permeates Aeos Island.

In the games

Professor Phorus is a scientist who discovered and implemented the use of Aeos energy. She is assisted by a researcher named Erbie. Her partner Pokémon is Metagross.

She introduces the player to Aeos Island and Unite Battles along with a presentation of Remoat Stadium. But she defers most of the teaching to Erbie, who actually guides the player along in the tutorial battles. Phorus does appear in Tutorial (Basics 2) at Mer Stadium to explain certain game elements, alongside Erbie.

Phorus shows up again after the player reaches Trainer level 3 to introduce the Beginner Challenge, an event for new players. When the player reaches Trainer level 6, Professor Phorus allows the player to use the Energy Rewards menu. There, she explains that the Aeos Research Insitute has created a machine that turns energy from Unite Battles (which is not Aeos energy?) into energy rewards, a number of items selected at random that range from clothing to Holowear to various currencies to Boost Emblems. She allows the player to use the machine at their leisure. Professor Phorus does not appear again after this point.

Pokémon UNITE Manga - Come On Over to Aeos Island!

Professor Phorus appeared in the first chapter Aeos Energy, reminiscing about her youth with her Metagross. She then announced the opening of Aeos Island for Unite Battle tournaments alongside Erbie.

In the second chapter, Zirco's Holowear, Erbie attempted to convince Zirco to wait for Eribie to get Professor Phorus's approval on adding Holowear to Unite Battles before selling any. Zirco ignored this and selling pre-orders for his holographic cosmetics.

Phorus reappeared in In Search of an Aeos Energy Spot. She and Erbie were searching for a new Aeos energy spot in a mountainous area, where they discovered the location that Phorus later named the Theia Sky Ruins.

Pokémon

Beldum → Metang → Metagross
Professor Phorus has had Metagross since she was a child, when it was a Beldum. It evolved as she grew up and now assists her by carrying equipment or Phorus herself.

None of Metagross's moves are known.

Trivia

  • Professor Phorus was designed by Hitoshi Ariga.[1]
  • The swirling patterns on the professor's coat appears to be based on the traditional Chinese motif of auspicious clouds.
