Roy's Lucario (Japanese: ロイのルカリオ Roy's Lucario), also known as the (Japanese: 黄色いルカリオ Yellow Lucario) and Yellow Flash (Japanese: イエローブラスト Yellow Blast), is the first Pokémon Roy caught in the Kalos region and his third overall. It is a Shiny Pokémon.

History

Lucario choosing to go with Roy

As revealed in Mega Evolution - Roy, Lucario, known as the "Yellow Flash" at the time, was considered to be the strongest Pokémon living at the Lost Mayo Maze in the Kalos region, always looking out for opponents at its level. After the incident in Laqua, Master Mayonnaise tasked Roy and Ult to find the palace and challenge the Yellow Flash as part of their Mega Evolution training. However, after making their way there, both of them were easily defeated by Lucario due to its speed. In the next episode, Lucario led Roy and Ult back to its lair, giving the two Trainers a chance for a rematch.

In Mega Evolution - Bonds, Lucario battled both Roy and Ult once more. Although Ult Mega Evolved his Sableye, due to its inexperience with Mega Evolution, Lucario still managed to defeat it, with Crocalor being the only one left to battle. Despite the odds, thanks to Roy's singing and predictions, Crocalor was able to avoid Lucario's attacks and counter its speed. Upon sensing Roy's aura, Lucario was so motivated that it somehow Mega Evolved even though Roy had not caught it yet. Mega Lucario then attacked Crocalor with Flash Cannon, but it was ultimately defeated by Crocalor's Flamethrower. Inspired by both Roy and Crocalor's strength, Lucario begged Roy to let it join his team, after which Roy caught Lucario as his third Pokemon.

Lucario and Roy

Lucario debuted at the very end of Where the Adventure Leads, where it was seen alongside Roy and the rest of his team one year after incident in Laqua. In Eyes to the Skies Once Again (Part One), Lucario was used to battle against a wild Slaking that was being influenced by Laquium. It immediately Mega Evolved alongside Ult's Sableye, allowing them to weaken their opponent enough for Captain Pikachu to finish it off. In the next episode, Lucario went up against Ann's Samurott and quickly won without Mega Evolving.

In Terastallization vs. Mega Evolution!, Lucario teamed up with Crocalor for a Double Battle against Nemona's Pawmot and Ribombee. They initially struggled against their opponents, as their defined roles as attacker and support, respectively, allowed them to deal big damage and remain healthy through most of the battle. Once Roy managed to disrupt it, however, they were able to launch a strong counterattack. Soon, Lucario Mega Evolved while Pawmot Terastallized, and the ensuing clash of Fighting types ended up with Lucario's victory, thus making Roy win by default.

Lucario's Lucarionite

In Friends as Two, Me and You, Lucario, alongside the rest of Roy's party and Ult's Sableye, battled against Indi and Rubina's Zen Mode Darmanitan. Due to the Explorers being assisted by an army of Rabsca, they managed to keep the upper hand for the majority of the battle. However, once Ult's Dragonite emerged, Mega Evolved, and defeated the Rabsca, Lucario was able to Mega Evolve before teaming up with Mega Dragonite to deal the finishing blow, defeating the two Darminitan.

In The Six Heroes Unleashed!, Lucario was used alongside the rest of Roy, Liko, and Ult's Pokémon to battle against five of the Six Heroes, who were under the influence of the Super Strong Spheres. Together, they stalled for time to allow Pagogo to purify the Laquium away from the heroes' bodies, only for the Explorers to use the Super Strong Spheres on them a second time. In the next episode, after being Mega Evolved, Lucario teamed up with Ult's Mega Dragonite to take on Moltres and Lapras. They performed a combination tactic that temporarily stunned their opponents, but before they could follow up with an actual attack, Lucario and Dragonite were simultaneously taken out by Arboliva.

Lucario's Lucarionite Z

In HZ129, Lucario was sent out as Roy's second Pokémon during his battle against the Black Rayquaza, fighting it alongside Ult's Mega Dragonite in its own Mega-Evolved form. Lucario even defended Dragonite from Rayquaza's Draco Meteor to help its teammate last longer in the fight. Despite landing some strong hits, Lucario was ultimately defeated by a powerful combination of Rayquaza's Dragon Ascent and Dragon Pulse.

In HZ131, Lucario received a Lucarionite Z from Master Mayonnaise and then proceeded to have a battle against his Hawlucha. Initially, they appeared to be equally matched, but once Hawlucha Mega Evolved, it dominated the battle and turned Lucario's offensive battle style against it with an Encore. Having fallen out of sync with its Trainer, Lucario was unable to achieve the new Mega Evolution and soon fell to a Flying Press. Master Mayonnaise pointed out that Lucario still needed to master its true aura power, and they agreed to train. In the next episode, following an unfruitful training session, Lucario unwound and sung with its Trainer and teammates, which gave to it a new perspective during its rematch against Mega Hawlucha. Now, even under the effect of Encore, it was able to adopt a more relaxed, free-flowing battle style, allowing it to block and dodge the incoming assault all the while waiting for the perfect moment to counterattack. With Lucario and Roy becoming more in sync as the battle went on, it successfully Mega Evolved into Mega Lucario Z for the first time and, after learning Aerial Ace, finished off Hawlucha, winning Roy the rematch.

Personality and characteristics

Lucario and Roy connecting through Aura

This Lucario, distinct with its rare yellow Aura—a potential mark of its Shininess—forges a particularly strong bond with Roy through its sensitivity to Aura. More than just loyal, this Pokémon exhibits a remarkable battle readiness and has proven to be a formidable force, even capable of Mega Evolution, making it a dependable asset in any challenge Roy faces. Lucario's ability to sense Aura has been helpful when predicting its opponents' next move, as seen in its battle against Ann's Samurott in Eyes to the Skies Once Again (Part Two) and the Laquium-afflicted Steelix in Following Traces of Laquium.

Lucario, Skeledirge, and Kilowattrel

Lucario has a mostly stoic and serious personality, much like most of its species. On occasion, it has shown to become exasperated by the antics of others, such as in Crash! Team Dragon Rampage, when Roy had to resort to it since Roy's Crocalor was too full to battle or when it saw Ult heading to the wrong direction. Due to it being caught after the disbandment of the Rising Volt Tacklers, it is not used to the eccentric antics of the younger members and their Pokémon and, as a result, tends to keep to itself in such moments, as seen in Clash of the Nidothing Fans, when it just stood by awkwardly as everyone added to Roy's song, seemingly confused and unsure of what to do. Despite this, Lucario is still capable of showing joy and affection, especially towards Roy and Skeledirge, and is perfectly capable of working alongside other Pokémon. Lucario, upon first being defeated by Roy's Crocalor in battle revealed a rarer and more adorable side of its personality, instantly begging Roy to have it join his team, showing keen admiration, excitement and respect towards stronger opponents.

Lucario seems to have an interesting relationship with Ult's Sableye as the two of them often battle and work well together, especially when they Mega Evolve, likely due to them training together in Kalos alongside their Trainers. Also, like their Trainers, they can be at odds with each other and Lucario would tease Sableye, but does share a fist bump with the Darkness Pokémon after working together to win a battle. Although, as time passed, Lucario's friendship with Sableye has improved and don't seem to clash with each other than they used to.

Despite always being ready to assist Roy in more serious situations, Lucario has also shown an eagerness for friendly battles as well, as shown in Eyes to the Skies Once Again (Part Two) and Terastallization vs. Mega Evolution!. In Riding the Waves, Lucario is shown to be a good swimmer and enjoys other activities such as surfing with Roy. Lucario appears to dislike sweets, as shown in Reunion in Cortondo, where it was the only Pokémon in the group not seen enjoying Katy's confections.

In HZ131, it's revealed that Lucario becomes easily frustrated when its attacks do not work, becoming increasingly frustrated when Master Mayonnaise's Mega Hawlucha's defense caused its Close Combat to not do any damage. However, in the next episode, Lucario learned from its mistakes of getting frustrated and attacking head on with sheer brute force. Through that lesson, Lucario has calmed down more, strengthening its Aura and bond with its Trainer. It additionally started adopting a more calm and free-flowing fighting style to counter opponents attacks better, which improved greatly after it successfully mastered Z Mega Evolution.
