(Japanese: ポケットモンスターハートゴールドソウルシルバーGO! GO! ポケスロン Pocket Monsters HeartGold & SoulSilver Go! Go! Pokéthlon) is a one-shot manga created by Shigekatsu Ihara and published in CoroCoro. The manga is about a Trainer named Takashi in the Pokéathlon.
Plot
The one-shot begins with Takashi standing in front of the Pokéathlon Dome, accidentally proclaiming that he is going to be the worst, instead of the best. His childhood friend Lyra appears and corrects him, handing him his Pokéathlon jersey.
Takashi then competes with his Onix, Pidgeotto, and Chikorita in the first competition of Hurdle Dash. His Pokémon ended up failing, with the commentator stating that he wasn’t doing too well. Takashi was then seen sulking, apologizing to his Chikorita for being an awful trainer. Lyra sees this and scolds him for being dramatic, though is interrupted by a top competitor in the competition. The competitor ridicules Takashi, telling him that he should just leave, showing off his Machamp. After the top competitor walks away, Lyra pointed out that he was giving his Machamp something called Aprijuice, a drink made from Apricorns that enhances a Pokémon's skills in the competition. Takashi’s spirits were instantly lifted, and he decided he wanted to make some of his own. Unfortunately, his Apricorn Box was empty, and he quickly went back to sulking. Lyra once again scolds him and hands him a bottle of Aprijuice she had made earlier in preparation.
On the second day of the Pokéathlon, the competition was Ring Drop. Takashi once again competes with his Onix, Pidgeotto, and Chikorita, though the top competitor’s Machamp was quickly overpowering him, even punching his Onix straight into the air. Takashi ends up with only his Chikorita left, with Lyra saying it would be okay due to Chikorita having consumed the Aprijuice. Takashi confesses that he had instead drank it himself as it looked too tasty to resist. Lyra is angry and scolds him saying that Aprijuice has no effect on humans, though Takashi insists that he has been powered up.
The top competitor's Machamp attempts to hit Chikorita out of the ring, however, it had wrapped the leaf on its head around the Machamp’s arm, staying in place. Takashi exclaims that a bond between Pokémon and Trainer is what is truly needed to win, and Chikorita sends Machamp flying out of the ring. Takashi ends up winning the match, leaving the top competitor frustrated. Takashi insists that there are more battles to come however, and not to give up. The one-shot ends with Takashi excited for the rest of the competition.
