Double Colorless Energy is the first Special Energy card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and as such, is one of the most well-known, especially by older players. It is a single card that provides 2 units of Energy, an effect that is very powerful. Many deck archetypes make use of this card.

Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic print
As long as this card is attached to a Pokémon, it provides Energy.
It was reprinted as a retro card in the Evolutions expansion, first released in the Japanese Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary subset, featuring the same artwork as the original print, an updated effect, and an updated card template reminiscent of the Original Series layout. Reverse Holofoil versions of this print were later given to players competing in International Championships held over the course of the 2016-2017 season. Four primary versions of this print were distributed, with stamps reflecting the event in which they were awarded. These included the Europe International Championships, held at the ExCeL London convention center in London, UK, on December 9–11, 2016; the Oceania International Championships, held at the Melbourne Park Function Centre in Melbourne, Australia, on March 10–12, 2017; the Latin America International Championships, held at the WTC Events Center in São Paulo, Brazil, on April 21–23, 2017; and the North America International Championships, held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, on June 30–July 2, 2017. Each of these prints also have gold foil stamped "Staff" versions given to those overseeing the events, as well as gold foil stamped "Top 8" and "Champion" versions given to competitors.
The Collection Y print of this card was included in the Pokémon Card Game 25th Anniversary Creatures Deck given to specific TCG contributors by Creatures, Inc. All of the cards in the deck have unique card backs; the Double Colorless Energy's back has details on Pokémon Rumble U, which was released the same year as Collection Y. This variant is Starlight Holofoil and has a gold "25th" stamp in the bottom right corner of the artwork.
Scarlet & Violet Series
Double Colorless Energy was reprinted in Holofoil with its Base Set artwork in each deck of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic. These reprints lack a regulation mark and are thus not legal for tournament play.
On April 7, 2025, it was announced that both Double Colorless Energy and Twin Energy are to be banned from the Gym Leader Challenge format starting April 24, 2025. With three different Energy cards that can be used to provide 2 Colorless Energy in the format (Double Colorless Energy, Twin Energy, and Double Turbo Energy), players are capable of easily launching powerful attacks that have a hefty Energy requirement, such as Snorlax from Lost Origin with its Thumping Snore attack that does 180 damage. Additionally, unlike Double Turbo Energy, Double Colorless Energy and Twin Energy functionally have no drawbacks to use in the Gym Leader Challenge format, hence the ban.[1]
Trivia
Double Colorless Energy was the only Energy card capable of providing more than one unit of Energy until the release of Miracle Energy in the Neo Destiny expansion. It was the only Energy card capable of providing more than one unit of Energy that could be attached to any Pokémon until the release of Bounce Energy in the Skyridge expansion, which was essentially a version of this card with a drawback. Now, several cards, including Upper Energy, Scramble Energy, and Boost Energy are able to provide multiple Energy units when attached.
This was the first special Energy card to be reprinted, being included in both the Nivi City Gym and Hanada City Gym decks. It would also be the first special energy reprinted in non-Japanese sets in Base Set 2.
