This is the ninth regular chapter of the Let's Play the Pokémon Card Game XY! manga.
Plot
Manbu arrives at the official championship after proving himself to Uratane. There, he quickly passes through the preliminaries with his fighting-type deck and makes it to the quarterfinals where he is matched up against Bakuro. Ahead of time, Bakuro scouted out a few Pokémon card gyms and correctly assumed many players would bring fighting-type decks based on the previous expansion pack, Rising Fist. As a result, Bakuro brought a psychic-type deck using cards from the newest expansion pack, Phantom Gate. At first, Manabu struggles against Bakuro's psychic-type deck. At this point, Guladari appears and mocks Uratane for his teaching style of only using your favorite cards. Uratane refutes Guladari and claims Manabu is smart enough to figure out the best way to use his favorite cards. At which point, it is revealed that Manabu is running a Genger EX and has incorporated cards from Phantom Gate into his fighting deck. This catches Bakuro off-guard, who cannot understand Manabu's mindset of having fun over his mindset of only winning, resulting in his loss. Guladari is enthused by the result and asks Urantane to relay a message to Manabu that "his strongest pupil will be waiting in the finals" before leaving.
