Blutus first appeared in an art gallery which showed pictures of many blue-colored Pokémon. Whilst there, Blutus encountered Abel, who was showing Ash, Goh, and Chloe around and also had a fascination for blue-colored Pokémon which started a rivalry between them. Blutus met them again in a café which had a theme of blue-colored food. Whilst arguing, Blutus received an alert of a Frogadier/Vanillite plushie available at the Poké Mart and went to get it, only to get into a fight with Abel which ended with it being torn apart.
To settle this, Blutus and Abel blindfolded themselves and sent out two of their Pokémon to see if they can identify each other's Pokémon. Team Rocket interrupted this by capturing Pikachu, Grookey, and Eevee but Abel saved them by having his Dewott break the net with its Scalchop. When Team Rocket requested the Rocket Prize Master, Abel and Blutus ended up scaring Pelipper away. Blutus received another notification on his phone and ran away with Abel.
