Platinum TCG Series merchandise

The Platinum Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game began in early 2009 gearing up for the localized releases of Pokémon Platinum. Over the course of this Series, a number of products, such as Collector's Tins and Value Boxes, were available to purchase, containing various promotional cards, booster packs, and other merchandise. Below is a chronological list of all the items released during the Platinum Series of the Trading Card Game.
Platinum Theme Decks
With the release of the first Platinum Series expansion, Platinum was accompanied by two Theme Decks: Rebellion and Flourish. The decks feature two prominent legendary Pokémon at the time, Giratina and Shaymin, respectively. The featured cards also receive holofoil versions exclusive to the Theme Decks.

Platinum Blisters
Also released alongside the Platinum expansion on February 11, 2009, were Three Pack Blisters and Two Pack Blisters, with three different promotional cards available to collect in total. The Three Pack Blisters came in two varieties: one with a Porygon-Z promotional card, and one with a Gliscor promotional card. These Blisters also include two Platinum booster packs, one Mysterious Treasures booster pack, and a coin featuring Magmortar and Electivire. The Two Pack Blisters include a Heatran promotional card, one Platinum booster pack, and one POP Series 8 booster pack. Two Pack Blisters were also packaged with a coin for the first time, with the Platinum releases featuring a Palkia coin.

Regigigas Colossal Box
Initially advertised as the Regigigas Premium Box, much like similarly named products in the Diamond & Pearl Series, the Regigigas Colossal Box was released in February 2009. The box features the Colossal Pokémon Regigigas as both a regular-sized and Jumbo promotional card. Also included are three Platinum booster packs, and two Diamond & Pearl Series booster packs.

2009 Spring Collector's Tins
Released on March 2, 2009, the Spring Collector's Tins for 2009 feature three legendary Pokémon with roles in the recently released Giratina and the Sky Warrior: Shaymin, Dialga, and Giratina. Each of the cards are reprints with alternative artwork. Shaymin LV.X and Giratina LV.X received alternate artwork that was at the time, exclusive outside of Japan. The tins come with four booster packs: two from Platinum, and two from the Diamond & Pearl Series. Prerelease material advertised that each of the tins would also come with a figure from the Pokémon Trading Figure Game, but ongoing delays meant these were not included upon the release of the Collector's Tins.

Collector's Poster Box 2
A second Collector's Poster Box was released in March 2009, and akin to the first box, is based on two Diamond & Pearl Series expansions: Majestic Dawn and Legends Awakened. The box includes a Cosmos Holofoil Yanmega promotional card, two Majestic Dawn booster packs, one Legends Awakened booster pack, and a Polar Frost Theme Deck. The box also includes a double-sided poster, which displays a complete checklist and card gallery for Majestic Dawn on one side, and the same for Legends Awakened on the other.

Gallade Blister Pack
Released in March 2009 with no prior announcement in stores such as Wal-Mart, the Gallade Blister Pack includes a Cosmos Holofoil Gallade promotional card, as well as one Stormfront booster pack, and one POP Series 7 booster pack.

Platinum Poster Pack
In a similar vein to the Collector's Poster Box, the Platinum Poster Pack solely focuses on the Platinum expansion, and was released in March 2009. Included is a Magnezone promotional card, two Platinum booster packs, two POP Series 8 booster packs, and a poster featuring a complete Platinum checklist and card gallery.

Platinum Portfolios
Released with the Platinum expansion was the set's 9-Pocket and 4-Pocket Portfolios. The 9-Pocket Portfolio features artwork of Giratina Origin Form and Shaymin Land Form, while the 4-Pocket Portfolio utilizes artwork of Giratina Altered Form and Shaymin Sky Form. Each binder has 10 pages, allowing for the storage of 180 cards in the 9-Pocket and 80 cards in the 4-Pocket.

Double Value Pack
Another blister pack released quietly during April 2009, the Double Value Pack features two more Cosmos Holofoil reprints of cards previously released in Pokémon Organized Play promotional expansions: Luxray and Probopass, originating from POP Series 8. The Double Value Pack also includes one Legends Awakened booster pack, one Platinum booster pack, one POP Series 6 booster pack, one POP Series 7 booster pack, and a coin with Energy symbols.

Rising Rivals Theme Decks
The Rising Rivals expansion features two Theme Decks: Drill Point and Cutting Edge. The Theme Decks are the first to include Pokémon SP, including a selection of those belonging to Gym Leaders and members of the Sinnoh Elite Four. Drill Point features Rhyperior, while Cutting Edge features Gallade, with both cards also receiving exclusive holofoil versions.

Rising Rivals Blisters
Accompanying the Rising Rivals expansion on May 20, 2009, were two varieties of Three Pack Blisters and a Two Pack Blister. The Three Pack Blisters include either a Carnivine promotional card or Probopass promotional card, as well as two Rising Rivals booster packs, one Majestic Dawn booster pack, and a coin. The coin included varies, with some blisters including a Rayquaza coin, and others a coin with Energy symbols. The Two Pack Blisters include a Rotom card with the Cracked Ice Holofoil treatment, the first promotional card to feature it. As such, this treatment gained the colloquial term Rotom holo within the community until the release of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online, when it was officially labelled. The Two Pack Blisters also include one Rising Rivals booster pack, one booster pack from either POP Series 7, POP Series 8, or POP Series 9, and a coin with Energy symbols.

Rising Rivals Portfolios

Platinum Player's Guide

Also released on May 20, 2009, was the Platinum Player's Guide. The guide comes packaged with a Black Star promotional Toxicroak card, which originated as a Japanese promotional card that came with the visual guide for Galactic's Conquest, Platinum's Japanese equivalent. The guide itself includes complete card galleries for the Platinum and Rising Rivals expansions, summaries for each card, suggestions for combinations, and recommendations on how to integrate them into decks. It also provides a deck list for the specially-created Toxic SP deck, which incorporates the accompanying Toxicroak promotional card.

Supreme Victors Theme Decks
As with the majority of TCG expansions, the Supreme Victors expansion features two Theme Decks: Ignition and Overflow. The Theme Decks draw inspiration from the Japanese Garchomp vs Charizard SP Deck Kit, released alongside Supreme Victors' Japanese equivalent, Beat of the Frontier. Ignition focuses on Cyrus, including a number of Pokémon , specifically Arcanine. Overflow focuses on Cynthia, including a number of Pokémon , specifically Milotic.

Supreme Victors Blisters
A collection of Blister Packs were released on August 19, 2009 to promote the Supreme Victors expansion, which included two varieties of Three Pack Blisters and a Two Pack Blister. The Three Pack Blisters include one of two Cosmos Holofoil reprints of cards originating from the POP Series 9 expansion: Manaphy or Regigigas, in addition to two Supreme Victors booster packs, one Stormfront booster pack, and a Shieldon coin. The Two Pack Blisters include a Cracked Ice Reverse Holofoil Raichu promotional card, one Supreme Victors booster pack, one POP Series 8 booster pack, and a Shieldon coin. The Two Pack Blisters released alongside Supreme Victors were also the last to include a coin.

Supreme Victors Poster Pack
Unlike the Platinum Poster Pack, which was released a number of weeks after the Platinum expansion, the Supreme Victors Poster Pack was released simultaneously with the Supreme Victors expansion on August 19, 2009. The pack includes a Dialga promotional card, a poster featuring a complete Supreme Victors checklist and card gallery, as well as four booster packs: two from Supreme Victors, and two from POP Series 9.

2009 Fall Collector's Tins
The Fall Collector's Tins for 2009 were released on September 2, 2009, and feature three Pokémon LV.X from the Supreme Victors expansion: Charizard, Rayquaza, and Garchomp. Each of the cards are reprints with alternative artwork, and remain exclusive outside of Japan. The tins also come with three Platinum Series booster packs, and one Diamond & Pearl Series booster pack. Repackaged versions of the tins were exclusively released in Walgreens Pharmacies from November 2010 and contained Cracked Ice Holofoil versions of different Charizard, Rayquaza, and Garchomp cards. These tins also came with only three booster packs: one from Platinum, one from Rising Rivals, and one from Supreme Victors.

Trainer's Challenge Box
Quietly released towards the end of October 2009, the Trainer's Challenge Box included products from the EX Series--largely defunct as of its release, as the last EX Series expansions were rotated out with the beginning of the 2008-2009 season. Of note are two promotional cards with a Cracked Ice Reverse Holofoil treatment: Chimchar and Riolu. The box also contains four EX Series booster packs, and an EX Trainer Kit 2.

2009 World Championships Decks
Released on October 28, 2009, a few months after the culmination of the 2009 World Championships, were the 2009 World Championships Decks. These four decks include Senior Division runner-up David Cohen's Stallgon, Junior Division champion Tsubasa Nakamura's Crowned Tiger, Junior Division runner-up Jason Martinez's Queengar, and Master Division champion Stephen Silvestro's Luxdrill. Each deck comes with a booklet about the championships, and a non tournament legal print of the sixty card deck. Each card has a 2009 World Championships back, silver border, and signature of the deck owner.

Arceus Theme Decks
The Arceus expansion brought with it two Theme Decks: Flamemaster and Stormshaper. Both focus on the Alpha Pokémon, Arceus, in its plate-induced appearances. Flamemaster features Grass and Fire-types, while Stormshaper features Lightning and Psychic-types. Both decks take inspiration from the Japanese Arceus LV.X Deck: Grass & Fire and Arceus LV.X Deck: Lightning & Psychic, respectively.

Arceus Blisters
Released with the Arceus expansion on November 4, 2009, were three different Blister Packs. The Three Pack Blisters came in two varieties: one with a Cresselia promotional card, and one with a Darkrai promotional card. Early product images of the Darkrai version incorrectly featured a Darkrai from Majestic Dawn, as opposed to the DP Black Star Promo print in the actual release. These Blisters also include two Arceus booster packs, one Mysterious Treasures booster pack, and an Arceus coin. The Two Pack Blisters include Cosmos Holofoil reprints of Happiny and Lopunny, as well as one Arceus booster pack, and one POP Series 9 booster pack.

Simultaneously released with the Arceus expansion on November 4, 2009, the Arceus Poster Pack includes a double-sided poster featuring a checklist and card gallery of the entire Arceus expansion, and an Arceus promotional card. In addition to these items, the box also includes two Arceus booster packs, and two POP Series 9 booster packs.

Arceus Poster Box
Also released with the Arceus expansion on November 4, 2009, the Arceus Poster Box is very similar in terms of content to the Arceus Poster Pack. The same double-sided poster and Arceus promotional card are included, but the Poster Box also features a Jumbo version of the same card. Five Arceus booster packs are also packaged as part of the box.

Arceus Collector's Tins
Originally scheduled to be released on December 2, 2009, the first wave of Arceus Collector's Tins were brought forward to coincide with the release of the Arceus expansion on November 4, 2009. The contents of the tins also differed between the North American release and those released internationally. The North American release came packaged with three Arceus booster packs, two booster packs from a selection of older Platinum Series and Diamond & Pearl Series expansions, and one POP Series 9 booster pack, for a total of six. The international release however, only included four booster packs in total: two from the Arceus expansion, and two from a selection of older Platinum Series and Diamond & Pearl Series expansions. Both tins included the same alternate artwork Arceus promotional card.
The second wave of Arceus Collector's Tins were released on December 16, 2009, containing another alternate artwork Arceus promotional card. The contents were, this time, the same for tins released in North America and internationally, each one containing two Arceus booster packs, and two booster packs from a selection of older Platinum Series and Diamond & Pearl Series expansions.

Value Box
Another product released quietly in stores such as Target during November 2009, the Value Boxes made two more promotional cards with the Cracked Ice Reverse Holofoil treatment available: Flareon and Gliscor . The boxes contain one POP Series 7 booster pack, and one late Diamond & Pearl Series booster pack; despite the front of the packaging advertising the boxes include a Platinum Series booster pack.

Pokémon Official Magazine: Premiere Issue
In November 2009, a special "Premiere Issue" of Pokémon Official Magazine was released in North American stores. While ongoing issues of a Pokémon Official Magazine have been released in other countries at varying rates of success, the 2009 Premiere Issue proved to be the only such release in the United States or Canada. The special Premiere Issue included information about the core series video games, particularly the upcoming HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, but also had a strong focus on the TCG, featuring card lists, coverage of the 2009 World Championships and Championships Decks, card image galleries and strategies and other content. The magazine included a Platinum: Arceus booster pack and a double-sided poster featuring artwork from the Platinum: Arceus expansion.

Platinum Series Collection
As the last Platinum Series item, the Platinum Series Collection released in December 2009 includes booster packs from all four expansions, comprising two Arceus booster packs, one Supreme Victors booster pack, one Rising Rivals booster pack, and one Platinum booster pack. A Dialga card, a Palkia card, and a Giratina card, all of which could be obtained in previously released Platinum Series merchandise, were included. A copy of the North American 'premier issue' of Pokémon Official Magazine-the only issue of the publication released in North America-was also included. The final item included was an Arceus figure, which was also the Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver pre-order bonus in several countries.
