The Mystery of the Missing Fossil
Cofagrigus
The Mystery of the Missing Fossil (Japanese: VS デスカーン VS Cofagrigus), titled VS Cofagrigus in the Shogakukan Asia translation, is the 475th chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga, and the 15th chapter of the Black & White arc.
It is subtitled Cofagrigus (Japanese: 竜骨 Dragon Bone) in the VIZ Media translation and Dragon-type Fossil in the Shogakukan Asia translation.
Plot
At the Nacrene Museum, the three Team Plasma Grunts who had fought Black at the Dreamyard are shown standing beside the Dragon Fossil.
Sometime later, as White continues to delay her and Black's departure to explore the city's shops, the two come across Hawes. He informs them that the Dragon Fossil, along with some other artifacts, was stolen the previous night. They all return to the museum, where Black has Musha clear his thoughts, leading him to determine that the thieves went west. As he runs off in that direction, a Whirlipede hurls toward him and throws him to the ground. He looks up to find the Pokémon's owner, who apologizes by saying he only wanted to stop him in order to talk. Introducing himself as Burgh, Whirlipede's owner offers to help look for the thieves.
Burgh follows Black and tries to start a conversation, but the latter only responds tersely to his questions. Burgh reveals that Lenora had asked him for his help in the investigation, and he agreed to participate because he needed some inspiration to remedy his artist's block. As the two walk outdoors, they soon discover the Dragon Fossil along with the other missing artifacts. To their surprise, the fossil shifts toward them.
Back at the museum, a nervous Hawes badgers White to call Black via Xtransceiver. When Black appears on her screen, she is shocked to see the Dragon Fossil attacking him, as well as Burgh flailing in its grasp. As Black tries to figure out what could be making the fossil move, he spots the three Team Plasma Grunts standing next to a man in robes. The man asks Black how he found them, prompting the latter to reveal there was a trail of footsteps left by the fossil and conclude it must have been moved by a certain Pokémon. Both wary and impressed by Black's observational skills, the man has the Dragon Fossil try to kill him.
As Black dodges attacks from the fossil, he realizes that the Pokémon controlling it must be close enough for him to see. Black asks for Burgh to launch his Whirlipede at him. As it darts toward Black at full speed, it slams into a Cofagrigus. Before the man in robes can recall Cofagrigus, Whirlipede uses Pursuit to knock it out. The fossil's arm then relaxes, freeing Burgh. Stating that the Dragon Fossil is not the Dragon-type Pokémon that Team Plasma seeks, the man in robes—whose name is revealed to be Gorm—leaves with the three Grunts.
Black and Burgh return the fossil to the museum, to Hawes's relief. As Black and Burgh commend each other for their work, the latter realizes that Black had lured him into helping to avoid revealing who his other Pokémon are. Black confirms this, saying he did so because he knows Burgh is the Gym Leader of Castelia City, who he plans to battle. Black and White set off, leaving Burgh to wonder to himself about Team Plasma's search for a Dragon-type Pokémon.
