Iron Fist (Japanese: てつのこぶし Iron Fist) is an Ability introduced in Generation IV. Prior to Generation V, it was the signature Ability of Hitmonchan.

Effect

In battle

Iron Fist causes the power of affected punching moves to increase by 20% (approximated as a factor of 4915/4096 since Generation V). This boost stacks with the Punching Glove, resulting in a power boost of 32%.

Although the following moves are affected by the Ability, they currently cannot be learned by any Pokémon with Iron Fist. They may, however, be called via Metronome, Mirror Move, Copycat, or Mimic, or be used by a Pokémon that gained Iron Fist by an Ability like Trace or Receiver or a move such as Skill Swap or Role Play.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, the power of punching moves is increased by 20% instead.

• Shauntal's Golurk was revealed to have Iron Fist as its Ability.
• Sun's Crabominable, Loot, was revealed to have Iron Fist as his Ability.

Trivia

• Although Rock Smash is described as a "punch", it does not have its power increased by Iron Fist.
• The following moves, despite what their English names may imply, do not have their power increased by Iron Fist:
  • Sucker Punch, since it is called「ふいうち」Surprise Attack in Japanese.
  • Poison Jab, since it is called「どくづき」 Poison Stab in Japanese.
• While Hitmonchan can learn Dizzy Punch by level up in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! only, the move cannot be boosted by Iron Fist in these games due to Abilities not being present in those games.
• Headlong Rush might be considered a punching move due to its Japanese name, ぶちかまし Buchikamashi (Headlong Rush), being a sumo term referring to the frontal collision of two sumo wrestlers right at the beginning of a match.
