Adaptability (Japanese: てきおうりょく Adaptability) is an Ability introduced in Generation IV.
Effect
In battle
Adaptability increases STAB of a Pokémon with this Ability from 1.5 to 2.
When a Pokémon with Adaptability is Terastallized, Adaptability only affects moves of the Tera Type. If the Pokémon's Tera Type is one of its original types, its STAB is 2.25; otherwise, it's 2.
Stellar-type moves are unaffected by Adaptability.
Outside of battle
Adaptability has no effect outside of battle.
Pokémon with Adaptability
In other games
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, Adaptability increases STAB from 1.5× to 2×.
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, the boost is instead from 1.2× to 1.5×.
In Pokémon UNITE, Adaptability is the Ability of an Eevee that will evolve into an Sylveon. It increases the user's Special Attack by 5% for 1.5s, when it deals or receives damage, stacking up to 4 times. This becomes Pixilate upon evolving.

Pokémon Adventures
- Red's Eevee, Vee, is revealed to have Adaptability as his Ability.
Trivia
- Adaptability is the first Ability in alphabetical order.
- Many Pokémon with Adaptability as an Ability appear to be based on invasive species:
- Beedrill (and by extension Mega Beedrill) might be based on an Asian giant hornet, which is native to East Asia, but invasive elsewhere.
- Corphish and Crawdaunt may be based on the red swamp crayfish, which is native to North America, but invasive in other countries such as Japan (including Kyushu which Hoenn is based on)
- Feebas, Basculin, and Basculegion appear to be based on the largemouth bass, which is native to eastern North America, but invasive elsewhere.
- Skrelp and Dragalge may draw inspiration from multiple invasive algae species, including Dasysiphonia japonica, which causes toxic algal blooms that can kill native fish species.
- Yungoos and Gumshoos appear to be based on mongooses, which were introduced to Hawaii (the inspiration for the Alola region) and other island ecosystems mostly to fight off invasive rats (referencing its rivalry with Alolan Rattata and Raticate).
- Glimmora (and by extension Mega Glimmora) might be loosely based on the blue passionflower, which is native to South America, but was introduced to Spain (the inspiration for the Paldea region) and now grows in the wild there.
