Yanmega (Japanese: メガヤンマ Megayanma) is a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon.

Biology

Yanmega evolves from Yanma from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl by learning the attack Ancient Power and leveling up. In battle, it grows faster each turn. It is one of the few evolving from the learned move Ancient Power (others are Mamoswine and Tangrowth), though there are other Pokémon who evolve from moves, but the moves differ between Pokémon. Ultrasonic waves coming from Yanmega's wings can cause lethal damage to a foe's internal organs.

Physiology

Yanmega is large, dark-green dragonfly. Each of Yanmega's segments have a red spot on it while the last segment has a black thorn on it. Yanmega has two black triangular plates on the back of its thorax and another plate on its head. Yanmega has red and white wings. Yanmega's eyes are red with a "Y" shape in each one. It can also be said that Yanmega has the appearance of a plane.

Trivia

Origin

It is, as its name suggested, based on Meganeura monyi species of dragonflies.

Name origin

Yanmega's name is a combination of 蜻蜓 yanma, large dragonfly in Japanese, and Meganeura, a species of gigantic prehistoric dragonfly. Its Japanese name means the same thing, albiet in reverse.
