The Japanese XY Era of the Pokémon Trading Card Game began in November 2013 with the release of the XY Beginning Set, starting off a wide array of TCG merchandise centered around Pokémon X and Y and the Kalos region. This collection includes a substantial amount of decks, blister packs, books, and many more items utilized to distribute various promotional cards among other promotional materials to commemorate the sixth generation of the franchise. Below is a chronological list of all the items released during the Japanese XY Era of the Trading Card Game.

XY Beginning Set

Main article: XY Beginning Set (TCG)

Similarly to the BW Era, the XY Beginning Set (Japanese: はじめてセット) marks the first major piece of merchandise released for the XY Era. Available on November 8, 2013, the set features three half decks that focus on the Kalos starter Pokémon Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, with their final evolutions included as Holofoil cards. The set continues the trend of previous introductory sets by including helpful items such as how-to-play instructions, a player's guide, and how-to-play DVD. Also packaged are game requisites, which include damage counters, a coin, and play mat. A damage counter bag is supplied as well.

XY Beginning Set for Girls

Following the approach set in the BW Era, the XY Beginning Set received a female-oriented counterpart. The XY Beginning Set for Girls (Japanese: はじめてセット forガール), also released on November 8, 2013, contains the same items as the regular XY Beginning Set albeit with different designs. The three half decks are similarly constructed, with a handful of exclusive cards replacing some found in the regular set. The set also comes with damage counters, a coin, a play mat, a damage counter bag, how-to-play instructions, a player's guide, and how-to-play DVD.

Rayquaza Mega Battle Mega Pack

Continuing with trends established the previous year, the campaign leading up to the start of the Rayquaza Mega Battle in May 2015 saw the release of another large booster pack-style item of merchandise. Released on April 17, 2015 was the Rayquaza Mega Battle Mega Pack (Japanese: メガパック 「レックウザメガバトル」), which comes packaged with a double-sided B2 poster, six booster packs, and one promotional Blaziken-EX card. The selection of booster packs include two from Gaia Volcano, two from Tidal Storm, and two from Emerald Break; the poster features artwork promoting the Rayquaza Mega Battle on one side and an Emerald Break card gallery on the other.

Rayquaza Mega Battle merchandise

Typical of Japanese tournaments, the Rayquaza Mega Battle both introduced a slew of exclusive merchandise and cards only available at the tournaments held during the month of May 2015, all themed around Mega Rayquaza, and other featured Pokémon from Gaia Volcano, Tidal Storm, and Emerald Break. Available for purchase at the pop-up Pokémon Center were both an exclusive Rayquaza Mega Battle Pin for ¥500 and a Mega Rayquaza themed Deck Tin reminiscent of the English Elite Trainer Deck Shields for ¥950. By presenting the voucher included within the Rayquaza Mega Battle Pack, patrons could earn the M Blaziken-EX XY-P Promotional card.

Large Japanese tournaments such as the Rayquaza Mega Battle also feature prizes for earning a certain number of points for participating in the various events throughout the event. Eligible events to earn the Play Points included the qualifying phases of the tournament: the Rayquaza Gym Battle, the Rayquaza Pokémon Center Battle, and the Rayquaza Mega Battle Last Challenge qualifier; and side events at the tournament itself: the 3 on 3 Battle and the Knockout Battle. Five Play Points were awarded for participating in the qualifying events, and 2 for the tournament side events. 2 Play Points were awarded for a win in any of the side events, with a further 3 Play Points awarded for a 3-match winning streak in the 3 on 3 Battle. At 1 point, players could choose between the event's exclusive Gold Cracked Ice Holofoil Mega Rayquaza coin or one of four sets of stickers available exclusively at the event. The prize at 3 points was player's choice of 1 of the 8 different prints of the Gym Badge XY-P Promo. Nine points earned the player the M Swampert-EX XY-P Promotional card. 29 points earned the top prize for side-events, the exclusive Rayquaza Mega Battle T-shirt, featuring Pikachu. Every prize was winnable more than once, except for the T-shirt.

For those who participated in the main events, the Swampert-EX was made available. Players who progressed to the second round in the main Rayquaza Mega Battle qualifying phase or achieved a 2-match winning streak in the Rayquaza Mega Battle Last Challenge qualifier earned an exclusive print of Mega Turbo. Victory Ring promotional cards were also available, awarded to the top three competitors from the A League and the B League. Players could qualify for the final stage in two ways. One way was to place in the top three at the Rayquaza Gym Battle or the Rayquaza Pokémon Center Battle events leading up to the tournament, thereby becoming eligible for the main Rayquaza Mega Battle qualifying phase. The top players at this stage then progressed through to the final stage. The second way was to participate in the Rayquaza Mega Battle Last Challenge qualifier held concurrently with the main qualifying phase. Players who won two consecutive battles at the 'First Stage' progressed to the 'Second Stage', and a further three consecutive wins at the 'Second Stage' granted entry to the Rayquaza Mega Battle final stage. Players knocked out at the main qualifying phase could also participate in the Last Challenge qualifier. The Rayquaza Gym Battle was held between March 1 and March 25, 2015 at participating Pokémon Card Gym venues. The Rayquaza Pokémon Center Battle was held at participating Pokémon Centers across two periods for different age categories: between March 28 and April 4, 2015 (all ages), and between March 29 and April 5, 2015 (elementary school students). The top twelve players from each league were then eligible for entry into the Japan Champion Finals, held at Pokémon Center Osaka on the weekend of June 27-28, 2015. The winner of the Japan Champion Finals earned the Mega Rayquaza trophy.

Various Pokémon Tretta events were also held at the Rayquaza Mega Battle venues, except at the Sapporo venue. Participating in the specific promotion, the Super! Mega Evolution Battle, earned players a Sceptile Tretta. Players who managed to fill the Catch Gauge of any one Pokémon were awarded a Primal Kyogre a Primal Groudon, or a Rayquaza Tretta at random. Participants with the top 10 highest scores were also awarded a certificate.
