Wild Area News

From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.
Jump to navigationJump to search

Wild Area News is a feature in Pokémon Sword and Shield that expands on the available Max Raid Battles in the Wild Area, making certain Pokémon more common for a limited time. It can be accessed via Mystery Gift or updated automatically by connecting to the internet in game. Wild Area News typically spawn different Max Raid Battles depending on the game version. Certain species of Gigantamax Pokémon, which are usually very rare, are often made more common through Wild Area News events. Additionally, during the Wild Area News events, certain Pokémon such as Mewtwo and Zeraora sometimes cannot be captured.

Any den can spawn a Max Raid Battle from Wild Area News. Dens that do so will always emit a red beam, indicating the "common" pool.

June 30 to July 16 and July 20 to July 31, 2020

This Wild Area News event focuses on Rock and Steel-type Pokémon. The Pokémon listed here have a chance of dropping Armorite Ore, regardless of whether or not the player has bought the Pokémon Sword or Shield Expansion Pass.

For the first few hours after this round of news went live, instead of dropping Armorite Ore, the Pokémon here dropped an invalid item which would crash the game upon receipt.[2] An update released later that day fixed the drop tables to include the correct item.

June 17 to June 28, 2020

To promote the release of The Isle of Armor, uncatchable Zeraora appeared in 3★-5★ raids. In 5★ raids, some Zeraora were also Shiny and more difficult to defeat. This represented Shiny Zeraora's first appearance. As an additional promotion, if at least 1 million players defeated Zeraora before the event ended, a Shiny Zeraora would be distributed via Pokémon HOME, and for every 100,000 players after that up to 2 million, each player would receive a piece of Armorite Ore (max. 10).[3] On June 23, the offical Japanese Pokémon Twitter account announced that the milestone for the Shiny Zeraora had been met.[4]
