Water Shuriken (Japanese: みずしゅりけん Water Shuriken) is a damage-dealing Water-type multi-strike move introduced in Generation VI.

Effect

Generation VI

Water Shuriken is a physical move in this generation.

Water Shuriken deals damage and is an increased priority move, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. There is a ~33.3% chance that it will hit only 2 times, a ~33.3% chance it will hit 3 times, a ~16.7% chance it will hit 4 times, and a ~16.7% chance it will hit 5 times. Provided that the move does not miss, it will hit ~3.167 times on average, giving it an average power of 47.5. Each strike made has an equal chance to be a critical hit.

Water Shuriken may continue attacking after breaking a substitute. Bide and Counter will only acknowledge the last strike of this move.

If the target has Weak Armor, each strike will activate it.

If a Focus Sash, Focus Band, or Sturdy activates before the last strike is dealt, the following strike will cause the defending Pokémon to faint. A Focus Band can still activate repeatedly to prevent fainting, but each chance is independent of the previous one.

If the user is holding a King's Rock or Razor Fang, each consecutive hit has an equal chance to cause the opponent to flinch.

Generation VII

Water Shuriken's category was changed from physical to special.

If Battle Bond is activated, Water Shuriken's power rises from 15 to 20, and it always hits three times, giving it an average power of 60.

Greninja When covered in a veil of water, Ash-Greninja forms a shuriken of water in one or both its hands. It then tosses the shuriken or shurikens at the opponent. When it's in its final form, it instead grabs the shuriken on its back and throws it at the opponent. After it does so, another shuriken pops up on Ash-Greninja's back. At times, this shuriken can grow to a larger size to deal more damage to the opponent.

Water Shuriken appears as Greninja's neutral special attack. It is a chargeable projectile. When fully charged, it slowly travels forward and hits multiple times, while if not charged at all it functions as a small fast projectile. Unlike other chargeable projectiles, it cannot be stored.
