Trivia

  • A Wailord, along with a Relicanth, is necessary in the party in order to unleash the 3 Regis from their sleeping place within the Sealed Chamber in R/S/E.
  • Part of the Ground egg group. This fact has supported the HSOWA joke.

Origin

This Pokémon is based on the blue whale, the world's biggest mammal.

Name origin

Wailord's name is a combination of whale and lord. The wail may also refer to the sound that whales and this Pokémon may make.

Its Japanese name is probably a combination of whale and 王 ō, king.
