In the anime

Wailmer first appearance was a cameo in Pikachu's PikaBoo.

Ross used a Wailmer for a Pokémon Water-Race in Pokémon Heroes. Ross and Wailmer came in second while Misty and her Corsola came in first.

Trivia

  • Wailmer, along with Azurill and Kecleon, was one of the first Generation III Pokémon revealed.

Origin

Wailmer is, obviously, based on a whale.

Name origin

Wailmer's name is based on whale. Wail may also refer to the sounds this Pokémon may create or refer to that whales sing or in this case, wail. Its Japanese name is literally 吠える子, bellowing child, but hoeru is similar in sound to the English word whale, making the meaning of its name whale child. Mer may come from the French word for sea.
