Vital Spirit (Japanese: やるき Willingness) is an Ability introduced in Generation III. Twelve Pokémon have this Ability. It is one of two Abilities that prevent sleeping (the other is Insomnia).

Effect

In battle

Vital Spirit prevents sleep. If a Pokémon with Vital Spirit uses Rest, it will automatically fail.

Outside of battle

From Pokémon Emerald onwards, if a Pokémon with Vital Spirit is leading the party, the chance of encountering a higher-leveled wild Pokémon increase by 50%.

In Generation V, Vital Spirit also prevents a Pokémon from visiting the Dream World.
