In the anime
Virbank City debuted in An Epic Defense Force!, when Ash and his friends arrived at the city port. Like in the games, the city has an existing movie studio and a recently built amusement park. The group met Luke again who was visiting the city to participate in a film-making competition. After being persuaded by Cilan, the gang decided to help Luke in the making of his film.
In Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 1 and Part 2, Ash and his friends went to the Virbank Gym. There, he battled Gym Leader Roxie for his eighth Unova League Gym Badge, and ultimately won it.
In All for the Love of Meloetta!, Ash and his friends, having found out that the Vertress Conference would begin in three months, decided to go eat Virbank City's famous "Bearticone" at Cilan's suggestion. Arriving at the ice cream stand, they met up with the Sinnoh League Champion, Cynthia. Cynthia then invited them to go to East Unova with her.
