Venonat is an {{wp|insectoid|insect}} {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} with a spherical body covered in purple fur. The fur releases a toxic liquid and it spreads when shaken violently off their bodies. A pink pincer-like mouth with two teeth, stubby forepaws, and a pair of two-toed feet are visible through its fur. Its limbs are light tan. There is also a pair of white antennae sprouting from the top of its head. However, the most prominent feature on its face are its large, red {{wp|compound eye}}s. Venonat's highly developed eyes act as radar units and can shoot powerful beams.
Venonat is an instectoid Pokémon with a spherical body covered in purple fur. Poison oozes from all over its fuzzy body. Venonat can be found in dense {{DL|List of Pokémon by habitat|Forest Pokémon|temperate forests}}, where it will sleep in the hole of a tree until nightfall. It sleeps throughout the day because the small insects it feeds on appear only at night. Both Venonat and its prey are attracted to bright lights.

===Origin===
===Origin===
In spite of Venonat's name it is not similar to a {{wp|gnat}} in size, physiology or behavior, other than on its compound eyes. It is likely also based on a {{wp|mite}}, which also sucks blood, is round, and has a pincer-like mouth.
Venonat seems to draw inspiration from multiple insects, which may include {{wp|Flea|fleas}}, {{wp|Mite|mites}}, {{wp|Fly|flies}}, {{wp|Owlfly|owlflies}}, flightless {{wp|Moth|moths}}, and/or {{wp|Caterpillar#Human health|venomous caterpillars}}. Its large {{wp|compound eye}}s function like {{wp|radar}} and resemble {{wp|parabolic antenna}}s.

====Name origin====
====Name origin====
Venonat is likely a combination of ''{{wp|venom}}'' and ''{{wp|gnat}}'' (a small insect).
Venonat may be combination of ''{{wp|venom}}'' and ''{{wp|gnat}}'' (a small insect).

Kongpang is possibly a combination of こんちゅう ''konchū'' (insect) and ''pang'' (the sound that a {{wp|radar}} makes, referring to its radar-like eyes). It could also be a shortening of コンパウンド アイ ''compound eye'', both referring to its eyes and its {{a|Compound Eyes|Ability}}.
Kongpang may be derived from ''{{wp|compound eye}}'' (visual organ found in insects) or 昆虫 ''konchū'' (insect).

Venonat (Japanese: コンパン Kongpang) is a dual-type Bug/Poison Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves into Venomoth starting at level 31.

Biology

Venonat is an insect Pokémon with a spherical body covered in purple fur. However, the most prominent feature on its face are its large, red compound eyes. Venonat's highly developed eyes act as radar units and can shoot powerful beams.

Venonat can be found in dense temperate forests, where it will sleep in the hole of a tree until nightfall. It sleeps throughout the day because the small insects it feeds on appear only at night. Both Venonat and its prey are attracted to bright lights.

Evolution

Venonat evolves into Venomoth.

Trivia

Origin

Venonat seems to draw inspiration from multiple insects, which may include fleas, mites, flies, owlflies, flightless moths, and/or venomous caterpillars. Its large compound eyes function like radar and resemble parabolic antennas.

Name origin

Venonat may be combination of venom and gnat (a small insect).

Kongpang may be derived from compound eye (visual organ found in insects) or 昆虫 konchū (insect).
