Session

Has the session timeout length been shortened? Lately it seems like I turn around for a minute to do something else, and I suddenly have to log in again.( Again, you can just answer here). -- WikidSmaht 16:49, 19 March 2006 (CST)

I do not know - perhaps it is a server issue. - 振霖T 18:49, 19 March 2006 (CST)

Edit count

Hi. A question: how do you made the edit count in your subpage? Regards, --Slade 02:31, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Bureaucratic powers

I think I should be classified as a bureaucrat, not just a sysop. The "Authority" section of Bulbapedia:Editorial board says I should be one (as it stands now I can't revoke/give power). If you could change that, it'd be great. Thanks. --Argy 04:34, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Redirects

All right, I think overall redirects for episode titles are done. However, as long as I'm on this orienteering kick - would it be overkill to, say, have Episode 5 redirect to EP005, or Advanced Generation Episode 57 redirect to AG057? Or having redirects of the Japanese names of Pokémon to their English-name articles, both literal and romanized, like Sandopan and Sandpan redirect to Sandslash (Pokémon)? I mean, if so, I'll leave those things to BulbaBot, but... --Pie 18:57, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

It's overkill for neither. All four sets of redirects you mentioned would be ideal. If I were new and I wanted to search for a particular episode, I wouldn't know to input EP### or AG### instead of just a number. --Argy 04:33, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
The episode redirects I can do. I would love to do the Pokémon redirects - I'm always searching for the equivalent English names, but I don't have the lists in a database, so that will have to be done later. - 振霖T 07:08, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
What about using the List of Japanese Pokémon names? Or would that information have to be copied to somewhere else first? Admittedly, I don't know a lot about how BulbaBot works. --Pie 07:27, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
The format is not exactly ideal - which is the problem. - 振霖T 07:28, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Do you need help?

Do you need help with any article, I would be happy to help you with an article. I am best at editing parts related to the Video Games or Anime, if you want me to edit any article and help you, I would be very happy to do it for you. Helping others is a good idea, as it can get changes made quicker. If you want me to help, leave a message in my talk page. Thanks I Love Minun (talk) 19:25, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Arabic

  • Quote from the Pokémon article on Wikipedia:

Pokémon has only belatedly made its way to the Islamic world, at this point, in Saudi Arabia. The driving point behind this factor is the belief that the trading card game promotes with cards. In most moderate Islamic countries, such as Turkey and Pakistan, it poses no threat. In Iran, for example, the game is relatively popular, and the Pokémon logo and characters are widely recognizable in much of the Muslim world.

There are also other sites with the same informations, but, if you think they aren't reliable, erase them. N.B: I don't speak Arabic so I can't guarantee for them.

Siegfried

Kind of. The (Gameboy only) GAMES didn't come here for a long while, the cards are hard to find now but were everywhere before- The Pokemon anime was here for a LONG time, but stopped after Johto Journeys, we never got the dub of Master Quest for some reason. I don't know why... I can read Arabic. ^^ -reads- ... My, was that BORING. xDD; That guy kept going on and on about Contests and stuff. -blink- I didn't find any information about what you're talking about on that particular topic.

The name of the topic, by the way is 'Advice to Game-players of Ruby and Sapphire Part Two.' --Musashi

About Japanese edition of Bulbapedia

Thank you give me a messege. I am interested in Japanese edition of Bulbapedia. But A already have Japanese edition of Pokemon encyclopedia . It use Mediawiki. This wiki was named by me to Pokemon Wiki(ポケモンWiki).
But this wiki has some problems.for Example Bulbapedia uses "Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike" license,But Pokemon Wiki use no license.Of course,I think I admit use article of Pokemon Wiki to similar project. But Pokemon Wiki can't use same license.so,I think they can't admit use article of Bulbapedia and similar project to Pokemon Wiki.As other example Pokemon Wiki cannot help using web sarver space with advertisement. So,It can't use NonCommercial license. But if you want to connect link. Please write my page FPU.

P.S Mediawiki cleared same message when I clicked preview.I write short it again--FPU 16:21, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

User JavaScript

It's not a major concern to me personally if I can have custom JS or not. The main reason that I wanted it was the lack of a Redirect button on the article edit toolbar (like there is over at Wikipedia). If you allow user JS, great, if not, that's fine with me too. --TwinsMetsFan 03:51, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Pokémon physical data

Would it be possible to have a bot add height and weight (both metric and U.S.) to the Pokémon infoboxes? I could compile all the information if that's the biggest hurdle. If not, I'll probably just add them manually... --Argy 18:38, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes. I have all the information required for a infobox expansion to match the one on the Japanese site. Problem: the conversion to imperial units may be incorrect due to differences in rounding. I will need to work out the exact conversion algorithm first. - 振霖T 23:57, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

List of Japanese Pokémon names

I've been working on adding the new Pokémon to the Japanese list, but I'm not very good at Romanization. I took all of the Katakana I could find direcly from screenshots on different sites, so I believe all of those are right, but I'm pretty sure some of my Romanizations are wrong. I would really like someone who is skilled at Japanese to take a look at it, and would really appreciate it if you would do it. Drapion 23:17, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Oneesan

E-macron (Ē ē) is rarely used, 'except with the interjection ええ and some foreign loanwords.

As the "ee" of "oneesan" does not refer to the interjection "ee" for agreement and is not a loanword...it's "oneesan".--Urutapu 03:21, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

It is, however the same (rare) phoneme as ええ, the long mid-open vowel, as opposed to the more common えい, which is the long mid-close vowel. Therefore it's onē-san. - 振霖T 05:25, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Questions

Hi, I'm a new user here, although rest assured I know all the rules, and use common sense. I was wondering; I see you have all the base data and etc. for Diamond and Pearl, so I had 2 questions:

  1. How do you get this data? What tools do you use to obtain it from the game?
  2. In R/S/E, all Pokémon had Hoenn numbers internally, to prevent Missingno. like glitches. Bulbasaur being 203, etc...they were in National order. So I was wondering here, does the same apply for Diamond and Pearl? Does every Pokémon internally have Shinou numbers? Bulbasaur being 152, etc...?

Sorry if these seem like stupid questions. Nice work, by the way. MK 01:27, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

  1. By knowing what to look for. We write our own extraction tools.
  2. No, all other Pokémon are assigned Shin'ō number 0, which shows up as #??? if you have not obtained the National Dex. - 振霖T 07:08, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
  1. I assume you play the game and look for changes in the RAM? Or possibly look for the base data in the hex of the ROM and find the pattern? I assume the latter.
  2. That's odd... I know in my FireRed game, I initiated a trade with LeafGreen. In LeafGreen I had a Wobbuffet in my party, but FireRed did not have the national Pokédex. It still allowed me to pick which to trade and even look at Wobbuffet's status screen from FireRed, and it had the number #???, but it obviously would not allow me to trade it. So, I know it does this for Ruby and Sapphire, but I guess they abandoned the system after that. I'll have to look into it more... MK 08:39, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Quick Question

Hi! New member. I have a doubt: Is there a policy for Pokemon Icons? You know, the little moveing images that are ripped from the "Party Status" menu. May I add them or there is a rule against? Thanks. Gambler 06:05, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

The abilities page and maybe in every article to put it to the left or rght of the name. Make it look more like a Pokedex or something. Gambler 16:36, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

A task for BulbaBot to do

I've started to put generation numbers on the Pokémon of generations 1 through 3. Can you please have BulbaBot finish this task? User142 (Talk) 18:19, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Bulbabot Task

Hey. I've noticed that pretty much no templates are in the Templates category. Any way you could have Bulbabot go through the entire Template: namespace and pop in <noinclude>[[Category:Templates]]</noinclude> to those that don't have it, please? Thanks in advance! Images Crisis イメージクライシス

May you please tell me why I can't upload images on Bulbapedia Archives. Why is User: Taylor is the only one? He is the one that started that edit war when he was reverting or uploading an already existed image. http://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Image:PochamaVSSubomi%21_Hikari%27sFirstBattle%21.jpg. User: Taylor is changing the images that I searched for. It is a waste of time and replacing what I personally feel is better content. If a screenshot is already provided, which was provided by another user, and someone changes the image to a different verison it's plain and simply rude

No, it's not. Why just you choose the images? I had the idea of a screenshot to each episode. Why continue using NextOn images only? The best thing to do is choose one of episode images to show. NextOn images may be used while there are no episode screenshots. And I will continue reverting the images: This line is a sign that he will continue vandalizing and reverting the images that I reverted. http://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/User_talk:Taylor

User: Taylor choosed alot of images (Original Kanto, Johto Journeys, Advanced Battle and Battle Frontier, and the first 3 of Pokemon Advanced and the first 6 of Pokemon DP.

Why are you on his side. How can I be obstructing work when I am just uploading images that I like, and he is just changing the images and reverting them?

Please end this. (Jsmith 18:35, 17 November 2006 (UTC))

You haven't done much to endear yourself to this administration. So don't complain when we have to pick sides that are equally guilty that we pick the one that hasn't caused us so many headaches. - 振霖T 02:01, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

What do you mean? So you are picking on me?
Why are you being unfair with me on the archives. Please unblock me. I think you are taking sides with Taylor. I want to upload images to it is A free enclyopedia which means anyone can edit. You are not being a good admin.
Because you are acting like an idiot who doesn't understand the meaning of the word no, because you start revert wars, because you use sockpuppets, because you evade bans, because your choice of pictures is ugly - there are plenty of reasons we could give. Also, I think it would be good for you to sit down and ponder this quote: Your freedom to swing your fist ends where my nose begins. - 振霖T 06:59, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

copying from wikipedia

I got warned by Pokencyclopedia that I shouldn't copy from Wikipedia. Is copying from Wikipedia really against Bulbapedia policy? I don't think it is a copyvio.Pokeymonfan 02:34, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

You shouldn't, and it is. - 振霖T 05:52, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

What do you mean by "it is."? That copying from WP is against BP policy, (addendum: Why doesn't it say so on the policy page?) or that copying from WP is copyvio? And, if you mean that copying from WP is copyvio, I think you are wrong, because WP is in public domain. Pokeymonfan 13:04, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Wrong. Bulbapedia and Wikipedia alike are not in public domain (I suggest you read up more on the topic on Wikipedia), and, are very much protected under copyright. It's just that we use an open content licence, which grants people many rights, including the ability to modify and republish a work, which often causes confusion with public domain status. Now, as for policy, we don't have formal rules regarding the matter because we approach it on a case-by-case basis. But, a few general rules apply, and the golden rule is, no intermixing of Bulbapedia and Wikipedia content, its corollary being, articles should only be copied from Wikipedia if no Bulbapedia article already exists. - 振霖T 01:49, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I always thought that wp was licensed under gfdl (a copyleft license) and now you are telling me that wp is protected under copyright? -- Pokeymonfan 03:59, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

And, Wikipedia is open-content as well! -- Pokeymonfan 03:59, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Did you even read the articles you linked to? Copyleft is a play on the word copyright and is the practice of using copyright law to remove restrictions on distributing copies and modified versions of a work for others and require that the same freedoms be preserved in modified versions. That is not the same as public domain status. - 振霖T 04:27, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

ok I get it now, thanks Pokeymonfan wuznt here 00:04, 27 November 2006 (UTC) (my new signature)

Just 2 cents

Hi! Just giving my opinion ok? Please don't take this as a personal attack or nothing, since through text is really difficult to emphasise calm. Look, I like working in here, in fact I think that this project can and will go a long way. However, I have seen a lot of pages marked as stubs when there is really not that much information to add to it. Now, the problem is that this game has a lot of crossing info, moves repeat, evos come and go and so on. A person just entering PKMN gets really confused, specially with names and concepts. I know that images tend to take downloading time, but it's also true that they make a page a lot more enjoyable and because there are a lot of other PKMN pages out there you should try new formats instead of repeating the same. And as far as the stretch, the problem with the bullet design is that it stretches it to the right, which is a lot less desireable that a vertical scroll. Ok, Maybe I did wrong trying to add a Pokemon per edit, but it's a lot of work anyways and I don't have where to save it if not in the workpages. Thanks anyway. Gambler 08:42, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

This is an encyclopaedia. An encyclopaedia is meant to be concise, precise and to-the-point, pardon my redundancy. It is not a beginner's resource. Being enjoyable is not a primary objective of an encyclopaedia, being informative is. I would much rather you direct your efforts to adding actual information. Now, you are free to disagree with the editorial board, however, you are not free to implement your ideas when disapproval has been expressed. Therefore, consider this a warning - if we say no, we mean no, and you will be barred from editing if you decide to ignore us again. - 振霖T 09:14, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Pokémon links-Psypoke

Any reason that Psypoke isn't on the list of sites Bulbapedia pages link to? It would seem to me that it should. User142 (Talk) 12:23, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

It would seem to me that the reason is an oversight - no one thought of it. If this is the case, then it should be put in; if it isn't the case - please let me know what the reason is. User142 (Talk) 11:48, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
There are so many links in the box. Unless there's a good reason - that is, information that none of the other sites has - to add more links, we should actually be thinking of removing links. - 振霖T 17:03, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Could you assess this TCG article format?

I have been working on a new format for articles on Pokémon cards, as the current official format is... somewhat lacking. You can take a look at how it's doing here. It is important that I have a good idea of its quality. I would like to know what can be improved and what is already good enough. I am not all sure what the procedures for replacing a big article template are, but I am confident that this one will turn out better than the current one. -Happy Mask Man 03:08, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

It looks better than the current format. However, I wonder how extensible the infobox is? Is it capable of dealing gracefully with missing information? Will the content of it vary between old cards and new cards? - 振霖T 15:08, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes, each card series will have varying information in the infobox. Cards that do not have the Pokédex data will not have it in the infobox. E-cards will have their e-card ID and a heading in the main article space about what the data on the card is. Promo card articles will detail the promotion used to distribute them. Cards that have a widespread misprint will mention that too. Actually, I'm not too sure whether to put some things in the infobox or the article space. Should the height, weight, and number be in the Pokédex section, the GB ID's in the Card GB section, and the e-card ID in the e-card section? In the e-card series, things such as height and weight are in the E-reader data for cards with dot codes, but cards with no e-card data have that information printed on the card. That seems like enough reason to put it in the main article space, with the oddity of it. Since inclusion in the Game Boy games isn't really something you can count on, it might be better to put the ID numbers from those games into the "In Pokémon Card GB" section. Putting things like that into the main article space might make the infobox easier to use. -Happy Mask Man 04:19, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, the keyword is gracefully. How do you plan to implement it as a template? In any case - the kind of information that goes into the infobox should be simple facts or numbers, to summarise the card; the article body should describe the use of the card, opinions about it, and yes, errors and misprint. - 振霖T 05:45, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that is what I meant. Sorry if I implied putting such things in the infobox. Like I said, the decisions I have left to make are whether or not to put some things that are in the infobox right now in the main article space. I am not too sure how template procedures work, but looking at other templates, I guess that each of the three main kinds of cards would get its own template. By moving some of the things that are exclusive to certain cards, such as levels and the like, to the main article space, it ought to be easier to deal with just one template for each kind of card. That leaves the English/Japanese set thing to deal with, with all of the cards that were only released in one or the other. I guess we could just put "None" for those, which would leave us with only one template needed for each of the three kinds of cards, which can easily be filled in with everything. Is that what you meant by "gracefully"? -Happy Mask Man 03:49, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
I think I've got it figured out now. We should only need one template for each of the main kinds of cards like this. Information related to the card's set and the identification ought to just be put at the bottom of the table manually. That way, we won't need to have a bunch of blank rows for things that aren't there. Doing that would make it easy to work out such complications of regional releases. With all of that considered, it leaves everything else in the infobox being only things that apply to all cards of their group. All that ought to be left now is to do the actual making of the template, which shouldn't be too hard, with it being a simple infobox. After all, it's completely flawless now, right? -Happy Mask Man 23:57, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
That sounds about right. - 振霖T 07:33, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Now there has been terrible disagreement between Pie and me. Now I have been trying to make compromise and change the project to what Pie wants it to be, but I believe that some things are better off one way and Pie insists on it being another way. We keep arguing in circles with, say, Pie saying that we should name articles with the English card numbers and me saying that we should disambiguate with the levels on the cards when there are. Pie would say that the levels don't mean anything and I would say that they're universal and that the numbers don't mean anything either. It would repeat over and over. I'd say that we should organize naming card articles by how they were set up before they were mixed and jumbled for the English version and Pie would say no... It just keeps going on like that. Pie keeps talking about her position as a style editor and how she knows best. She says that if I want to do something about it, I need authority to back me up. So I come here asking for some of this to be resolved. To get a decision or something. I just want the TCG project to be able to move forward, see. I'm getting very tired of these arguments. It just isn't working. -Happy Mask Man 08:32, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
If an argument can go on for so long and is basically just repeating the same arguments over and over, then it must be a sign that neither option is better. However, since my position on the holographic card issue is that the holo and non-holo variants of what would otherwise be exactly the same card should be in the same article, this gives the levels option a very small advantage over the numbers option, assuming that there are no Pokémon cards with the same name, set and level but different content. However, as I am no longer familiar with the TCG, I cannot make an informed decision. Please contact Archaic instead. - 振霖T 11:35, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
For the record, there are Pokemon cards with the same name, no levels throughout the EX series, and within the same set in the US game. HMM's solution to this problem is to organize all cards by Japanese sets, but I don't think that's a good idea since most visitors here would be unfamiliar with that format. --Zeta 21:48, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Concur'd. English organization should take priority, period. --Pie ~ 22:23, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
It is not organized by Japanese sets. The card articles are only named that way if they were originally parts of other sets. All of the set's articles will still list the English set list by the English numbers first. The focus is still English. After all, the articles are titled like "Bulbasaur (Base Set)", not "Fushigidane (Booster Pack: 1st)" The names are just spread out because there are a lot of sets that are split and spread across for the English sets. Like say, EX Emerald, which is completely made of a jumble of Japanese decks. No matter how they are mixed, however, the set list will list the cards of the English set and numbers first and foremost. Some of the card articles' names may be different because they were originally parts of different sets, but because the card is part of that set in English, it is listed there in the English list, which is the one that is first and foremost in a set's article, and not in the Japanese list. -Happy Mask Man 23:01, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you so much. You are a life saver!!!

A minor task for BulbaBot

Greetings. Maybe this one isn't that necessary because of redirect pages, but perhaps a routine for fixing the capitalization of Pokémon move names would make readers learn the exact way they should be typed (especially those with middle caps as shown since Generation IV). Not only names of Pokémon moves, but also names of some items from the games. Even Nintendo crossovers such as Super Smash Bros. and related material are starting to use such a convention, as seen here. --Johans 20:44, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Sockpuppets?

I noticed that a lot of accounts that haven't been used have been created in the past few days. I suspect that they are sock puppets for a vandal waiting to strike. Could you consider this? I can't do anything about the accounts because I have no admin powers. Carnivine 22 March 2007

Can you please do something about all these unused accounts? As much as I hate to admit it, Maxim is right. That page did smell like an add. Who knows how many more could come. Carnivine

No. I cannot delete accounts simply because they appear to be unused. It is not atypical to see many accounts registered per day, and the vast majority of users never make a single edit. Please inform any administrator if you see any ongoing large-scale vandalism. - 振霖T 07:50, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Insults

You might want to speak to IDeoxys. If you want ot know why, check the history of his talk page.

Caps

I don't know what you mean in your message, if is about the move's caps tell me wich would be the ideal size.

Moving page problems

Zhen, you might wanna check out You & Me & Pokémon, if you can. The system has the article stored there, but always opens up the nonexistant You & Me page, even when using the move function. I don't know how to fix it. --Pie ~ 19:21, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Ah well, may as well extend the workaround for one ampersand to two... - 振霖T 01:27, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Page Editing

Whoops, sorry - didn't realise it was a problem. I'll just edit the entire thing in one go, though it's easier with the items to see the item icons so I can match them up with my data. I think it should be fine to just use the preview though.

Sorry. ^^'--Doctor Oak 16:15, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

I Like This Name

Thanks for the offer, but I really just wanted to change the name of the page, not my real user name. - Yukushi wisdom 16:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

DP encounter data

I would like to start putting this data into the pages for Cities and Routes of Sinnoh, and I can see that you have the files, but I have virtually zero experience with Japanese, so having everything in English would be extremely helpful. Drapion 16:28, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Just a small addition to what I said earlier, I have now done up Twinleaf Town with encounter data. I could go a lot faster with the pages in English, but I'll work with the Japanese for now. Drapion 17:08, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
The tables have been updated. See here for an explanation of how to read the substitute tables. Also please don't merge rows for which the level ranges are different. Please review the edits I have made to your table. - 振霖T 04:28, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks a ton for the English. I'll be sure to check out that forum thread as soon as I can reach it, veekun seems to be having some problems. And I'll be sure to keep the separate level ranges separate in the future. Drapion 01:43, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't know if you must have the National Dex to get the Super Rod (it can only be found in the Fight Area), but I do know that beating the E4 is required, so perhaps all the Super Rod entries should be listed under After National Dex. - 振霖T 08:55, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

question reguarding Bulbapedia's Userspace policies

Namely, does Bulbapedia have any policies/restrictions when it comes to a user's userspace? I've been checking through the policies and rules, and I couldn't find anything on the subject. I'm planning to create a sub-page in my userspace (e.g.: User:Jioruji Derako/subpage), but I don't want to go right ahead and create anything if there's a rule against it that I didn't notice yet. Is it alright for me to do this, or would I be running into a rules issue or something of the sort? Thanks in advance. -- Jioruji Derako.> 12:26, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

There are no formal rules, but obviously there will be some things that will result in administrative action. - 振霖T 13:12, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Alright, so basically, as long as I follow common sense (no making an entire encyclopedia-worth of subpages), I should be fine, correct? I just have some large items (a sortable PokéDex, namely) that I like having around for ease of use, but it's taking up a lot of space on my userpage (because it's long). Making a single subpage shouldn't be a big deal, I assume? And I'm sure if I go overboard (which I don't plan to do), it's not a hard job to simply delete it and give me a warning. -- Jioruji Derako.> 15:45, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Encyclopaediae Pokémonis

Hi Zhen, I've got a stupid question for you: I might create a Pokémon wiki in another language if it has enough support. How can it become a part of Encyclopaediae Pokémonis?

Also, unless you've considered already, you might want to have a look at some useful MediaWiki extensions for Bulbapedia:

Thanks for your time. :) --Cipher Admin Ein (Talk with Master Ein) (Ein Files) 14:14, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

The most important criterion is licensing: you must use a Creative Commons by-nc-sa licence. Then, the next criterion is activity: you must have enough articles and users to show that the project won't become dormant. This has happened to one previous applicant - after more than a year of being open, there were only 125 articles or so. Of course, numbers may be boosted by bot-created articles, but in the end it's the users that determine the success or failure of a wiki. Therefore, Encyclopaediae does not usually accept applications from newly-created or not-yet-public wiki projects: it is hard to gauge the potential at such an early stage. - 振霖T 02:51, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply. I've got two stupid questions more:
  1. If/when I create that wiki, can I get the code for those miscellanous parser hooks? I'm sure they'd be useful.
  2. Secondly, how much disk space Bulbapedia takes currently?
Thanks for your time! :) --Cipher Admin Ein (Talk with Master Ein) (Ein Files) 10:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
The Bulbapedia database is approximately 936.7MB at the moment. Bulbagarden Archives consumes approximately 659MB of disk space and its database is 68.6MB in size. - 振霖T 11:21, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Tips

Well, I already knew both of those, but I didn't know how to make an é. But ow that I look around, I notice the character palette.

Tropius and Tangela

Ok, I feel that a good deal of the information in this encyclopedia is taken from Serebii, and that worries me. It would seem to me that, at least from the encounter data that you have, Tangela and Tropius are not obtainable in Diamond or Pearl in any way besides Pal Park. The bad news is that this flies right in the face of Serebii saying that all non-starter non-legendaries are available. I'd be happy to change those articles based just off of your data, seeing as it was taken directly from the game's code, but first I want to be abolutely sure. Can you confirm for me that Tangela and Tropius are not available in Diamond and Pearl? Drapion 18:40, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Just in case the info helps, apparently Tropius was made available in D/P via a Nintendo Event (at least in Japan). For Serebii's reasoning, that's technically a Tropius not obtained via Pal Park... don't know if that info's relevant, just something I dug up when Googling Tropius. -- Jioruji Derako.> 21:22, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
P.S.: There's a trainer in D/P who uses a Tropius, so you can still get it in your PokéDex without trading...
There was some dispute about this the first time I published the data. I don't in fact know if they are unavailable or not, but I can say that if it's not in the data, it's not available through regular means. (i.e. it might be a special case within game code.) But according to Coronis, according to the DP National Dex guidebooks, the two are Pal Park only. - 振霖T 07:25, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Account creation problems

I've talked several people in the IRC chat to consider registering for Bulbapedia and contributing... only to find that they're all getting errors when they try and register accounts. Did you turn off account creation for some reason? --Pie ~ 20:26, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Diamond and Pearl

I was wondering, are Diamond and Pearl worth buying when they are released in the UK in a few weeks time. I have been disapointed before with Pokémon games as they sometimes don't add enough new things, and as this is the first DS Pokémon game i was wondering is it different than before and in what ways? Reply here or on my talk page! ¡иąтнąи! | Talk | Email| 16:39, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

I personally think they're worth getting. There's quite a lot of new additions in these games (Sinnoh Underground is fun, for example)... online Battle Tower is a blast, as well. I've already started transferring most of my Pokémon over from Emerald and the other games, because I just don't think I can go back to playing those at this point anymore. The new additions to the battle system (Sp. and normal Attack based on the move itself, rather then the move's type) really make a difference as well, and make the battles a little deeper. The only thing I miss from Emerald is Battle Frontier, but the new Battle Tower and the surrounding area have similar challenges (I haven't battled far enough, but after enough fights in the Tower you'll run into bosses just like the Frontier Brains).
I think you'd at the very least get your money's worth on one of the two.</twocents> -- Jioruji Derako.> 19:21, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Ash and Lucas

You're telling me that there's absolutely no similarities between Ash's and Lucas's outfits? I mean look at the vest and pants. And if you see their backpacks there the same except Ash's is green. - Kenji-girl

Let's stick to what the pokedex says?

Where exactly does the pokedex say Shellos is Purple? --Dekubobo 12:21, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Same place it says Charizard is red. It's in the data as color identification. --TTEchidna 19:59, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
I know the third gen games had that option to search based on color, but i can't find such a thing in my pearl version --Dekubobo 20:36, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

New Bulbapedian called FREAKAZOID!

Intro and Fanfiction Idea

Hi! I'm FREAKAZOID (I know I started being a Bulbapedian sometime during April), and I'm known to drive everyone totally insane! Right now, I'm working on a fanfic called "PokéFriends in Need!" I'm keeping it on Microsoft PowerPoint for now. It's a work-in-progress.

Here's the plot: Team Rocket, Team Galactic and Pokémon Hunter J and her minions, after being transformed into Pokémon, plan to capture talking Pokémon and take over Pokémon Square, and it's up to Ash and company and all the Rescue Teams of Pokémon Square to stop them.

Sincerly, User:FREAKAZOID!

Request for resources or instruction

I'm very sorry you didn't like my table for the Accessory page, but could you at least show me where to find the format you used? I attempted to use the MediaWiki's method of pipe table creation, but apparently that isn't what you like. Is there any place that shows color codes and/or the preformatted versions of the CSS table styles you're calling?

As a new user it's rather difficult for me to make something "pretty" when I don't have the necessary knowledge to do so.

I was going to at least provide all the information for the Contest accessories and their performance in various classes, but if the only comment I'm going to get is "What a hideous table" then I'll just take my time elsewhere...

Hosting possibilities

Hi Zhen Lin. I'd like to discuss a possibility with you, because I saw the discussion concerning whether or not you were going to incorporate Google Adsense. Purely out of curiosity, would you be interested in increasing the level of partnership that we currently share with you at StrategyWiki? We would be interested in hosting you, and possibly eliminating your hosting expenses completely. Obviously, your domain is important to you, and I would want to make sure that you could keep it, but whether you could or you couldn't, we could also set up an http://bulbapedia.strategywiki.org domain. If this is something that you don't have any interest in, I understand, but if it's something that you'd like to consider, I'd love to talk to you about it. Please let me know what you think either on my talk page here or on SW. Thanks very much for your time. Procyon 23:04, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your offer, but we are not thinking about changing hosts at the moment. However, it is important that Bulbapedia be understood not merely as an entity that is hosted by Bulbagarden but instead as a part of the network of sites that comprise Bulbagarden. - 振霖T 12:38, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Understood. Thank you for your response. Keep us in mind if anything ever changes, we would love to work more closely with you in the future. Procyon 17:50, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

A project: Bulbapedia in Spanish

Hello, I am Gta Ed and I am so interested about Pokémon. I saw this page and I think is awesome. I can speak Spanish, and I would like to create (of course, with your help) The Bulbapedia in Spanish. I do not know how to create a Wiki (I was trying before, but finally, I didn’t). If we do the Bulbapedia in Spanish, you could do the script and those thing and I (with help too) can write the content in Spanish. Obviously, with the same templates, logo and other things. Tell me what you think about it. My mail is [email protected] If you want to know more about me or the “project”, just ask me. Bye.

Hi Zhen Lin, I'm from the PokéWiki and was wondering who is operating the WikiBot there. Is it you? Filb does not know about it. However, this bot adds interwiki links. I would like to do that too with a bot - i'm already running a bot, but cannot get it work with two or more langauges. You use the Pywikimediabot, I assume? ...well, many questions. I could, but then you must first tell me why you want to operate a pywikipedia bot? - 振霖T 18:18, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, in the german wiki I am operating one. And there I / we need it to ... do things you need bots for ^^ e.g. I added this prev-next templates to the pokemon pages, I fix spelling mistakes... things like that. Here in Bulbapedia I don't want to do such things, I just want to add interwiki links automaticly to the wikis... And I don't know why, but it does not work. I tried this:
class Family(family.Family):
    def __init__(self):
        family.Family.__init__(self)
        self.name = 'pokewiki'
        self.langs = {

        }
        self.namespaces[5] = {
            '_default': [u'Pok\351Wiki Diskussion', self.namespaces[5]['_default']],
        }

    def version(self, code):

Alright, that works, thanks. It would probably be clever to create a bot account :-) --- i promise you I will only work on interwiki links with that bot. can you give the bot flag to my account MewBot ?! MewX 09:20, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Plus, I think I'm too stupid, I ran the bot but it didn't change any links. How do I have to start it? I simply did python interwiki.py -start:!... Hm. MewX 10:14, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Please refer to the documentation on the MediaWiki and Meta sites. - 振霖T 11:48, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Well alright it's working now. Thank you. MewX 13:38, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi, me again, I'd like to run my bot in ja: aswell. I saw that you're a buerokrat there, too. The bot does it's work very nice on de, fr and en... Thank you! (I created an account there, ja:利用者:MewBot. ) greets MewX 18:11, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

JohnnyRebel

Please ban User:JohnnyRebel!!! TinaTheKirlia, me and Politoed666 have been reverting all of his vandalism! --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 01:19, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 01:35, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Damn JohnnyRebel!

(I apologize for using a mild expletive in the section title without warning. However, given the severity of the situation, I feel it may have been warranted. Censor if you must.) Because of that idiot JohnnyRebel, Old Rod (Neo Revelation 64) has been replaced by a broken redirect. Legitimate content was deleted when the target was taken out. Is it possible to restore the legitimate content? If not, I'll gladly recreate the article. --Shiningpikablu252 01:43, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. --Shiningpikablu252 01:46, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Recent Vandalism

As I mentioned elsewhere, you seem to have a real problem with vandalism lately. Autoconfirmation would probably really help, and maybe some other bits of security. I don't know very much about the inner workings of MediaWiki or anything, but if you need some advice, I can point you who to ask. I'm also a member of the Homestar Runner Wiki (in fact, I'm a sysop there), and we had some severe problems just like this a while back. It's largely stopped now, due in part to our security tightening (the other part comes from dedicated users, which you don't seem to be in short supply of here). If you want some advice, direction, or anything on security of your own, I'd ask It's dot com, who is one of our developers and largely responsible for much of the maintenance and care of our wiki. I know he'd be glad to help you out, if he is able, and all you'd have to do is drop him a line on his talk page or email. This site has all sorts of awesome content, and I'd hate to see it ravaged by vandals on a frequent basis. So I'm tryin' to help you out a little. Hoping to see you soon, --DarkfireTaimatsu 08:55, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I agree with DarkfireTaimatsu, this is a good idea. --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 11:55, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I agree that we could be doing more - the question is, what more should we do? - 振霖T 11:59, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Are the users you're blocking more sockpuppets or what? They aren't in the user creation log...enlighten me. -File:Spr 3e 186.gifPolitoed666File:Spr 3e 186.gif

Suggestion 1

Warning: When reading this suggestion, you might become furious and want to ban me for life (Please don't!) My first suggestion is a rather stupid one: Giving some of us the power to ban new sockpuppets. I mean like you can give TinaTheKirlia, me, Politoed666, and some other people who have been here for a long time the ability to ban new vandalist and sockpuppets. By long time I mean people who have been on the top cotributor of the month like three times, made over 1,000 edits in a month, never got banned (Well I got banned by accident, you can ask Evkl or me for more info), something along those lines. Evkl and I discussed this a little bit.... --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 23:49, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

So basically, you mean Tina, Politoed, you, me, and Shiningpikablu252? File:Ani164MS.gifShinyTalk | ContribsFile:Ani408MS.gifFile:Ani410MS.gif 00:43, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

EXACTLY! --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 00:50, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

What I'd like to know, is why someone would give an 11 year old Admin status. ^^;; (That'd be me. Haha.) 281Tina380 00:51, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
I think he's just suggesting to give us the power to block users, not all of the admin powers. File:Ani164MS.gifShinyTalk | ContribsFile:Ani408MS.gifFile:Ani410MS.gif 00:53, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Shiny is Exactly right. Give a few of us just the power to ban. --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 11:37, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Administrative power is given, not requested. That said, I will consider your request and consult with other members of staff... - 振霖T 14:48, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
It was just a suggestion. And you don't have to give us all admin powers, really only the power to ban (If that's possible) --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 19:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion 2

My second suggestion is that you make new users unable to edit. Wikipedia has this on some articles. Having new users unable to edit or move pages for a time will give admins a good chance to ban them. This will create a lot less sockpuppet attacks........ --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 23:49, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Unless they're patient and just make a lot of sleeper accounts and wait for them to go active... Fortunately, most vandals aren't this patient/clever. --DarkfireTaimatsu 00:02, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

The protection of the Archives

Hey Zhen Lin, I wanted to upload the G/S/C sprites to the archive (now that we have that nice template) but the entire place seems to be protected, for only bot use. Can you enable rights for me at least? I'd really like to get those sprites up so the pages don't look so messy. MK 14:19, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Um, I think I can help (even though I'm not Zhen Lin)! I just went on, and it's not protected. I think you just have to make an account on Archives. Your account on Bulbapedia and an account on Archives are different. --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 14:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Is there a way to upload images straight from other sources to the archives? They're bogging down my computer. --File:Spr 3e 186.gifニョロトノ666File:Spr 3e 186.gif

User:Cerberus‎

Can you please pan User:Cerberus‎? He changed Paul from Pokémon Trainer to Pokémon 'Jirk'! --File:Spr 3e 115.gifTheryguy512File:Spr 3e 202.gifFile:Spr 3e 327.gif 16:27, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion to prevent vandalism

I am not sure if it's possible, but is there a way to block someone's MAC address? We could use this in extreme cases like the recent vandalism we have been suffering. It would make it impossible for vandals to just use proxys to circumvent a ban. If it is possible, I suggest that you consider this option. After all, I don't speak for all of Bulbapedia. Let me know what you think. Albedo667 23:15, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

MAC addresses are lost quite quickly when traversing the internet. Even if they were not they are still easily spoofed. - 振霖T 07:52, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Er, hi. I know the User No.1 Fan in real life and he told me at school that he made the account Ph34rulz, and deleted his own User page. He told me it was a small prank he was doing on Bulbapedia(I didn't like the idea, but when I found out he had already done it), but now his ip-address has been blocked and he asked me if you will stop blocking it. I personally think he should wait a while before you remove it, but its your choice. Evee44 Talk page File:Ani133MS.gif 20:04, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Well I, Theryguy512, think that anyone that who creates a vandal for a "joke" should be banned for life. Not to point fingers, but some other users have been doing it, too. It's not funny. --File:Spr 3e 059.gifFile:Spr 3e 132.gifTheryguy512 File:Trozeiani025.gif 20:10, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

Vandals can go to Internet Cafés and vandalise with one computer. Once that computer's IP has been blocked, the vandal can easily stop his session and move on to another computer, and so on so forth. It is just a theory to explai JohnnyRebel's constant user creation...User:Optimus35/sig 11:58, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Some people have dynamic IPs... they can basically change the IP address at will by simply resetting it. Sometimes, in such a case, a ranged block (blocking an entire IP range) is in order, though the side effect is possible accidental bans of other users living nearby. -- Jioruji Derako.> 13:12, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Could that explain Netto-kun's inaccessibility to Bulbapedia? User:Optimus35/sig 13:13, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
theres also something called proxies. going to to an internet cafe to vandalize is lol. most likely they are making use of a proxy. Blocking them is about as useless as catchign smoke with your hands, considering i can come up with three off the top of my head.Dark0805 (talk|contribs) 15:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Fyi

The "did you know" section has this:

that Pokémon is banned in Saudi Arabia for assumptions of promoting Zionism and gambling?

but a quick search of the pokemon article shows, apparently, that info has been removed. It's a minor concern but it probably looks pretty stupid to have a "did you know" that no longer exists. I can't edit the main page but i know it's possible for an admin to fix something like that.Dark0805 (talk|contribs) 15:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Erm... a vandal is on the list for November. It's Tina The Kirlia (The one with spaces. Not me. XD;), and I think you should replace that with a user that _isn't_ a vandal. Just wanted to let you know. User:TinaTheKirlia/Sig 04:12, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
