Glitches

As you may already know, I have been having a SOMEWHAT heated discussion with several other members over the notability of glitches and whether or not they should be such a significant part of Bulbapedia. At first, I found that many glitch articles required cleanup, but then I decided that they were just too useless and irrelevant to bother with. So I marked several for deletion. Yes, I know it was a mistake and you don't need to give me all the reasons why. However, I still believe that articles like Glitchy Charizard and Invisible Shiny Bulbasaur do not deserve their own pages. Fabu-Vinny told me to appeal to a member of the editorial board, and here I am. My suggestion is to move any glitch Pokémon based off a real Pokémon into that Pokémon's trivia section. Invisible Shiny Bulbasaur goes under Bulbasaur's trivia. Then, whatever is left over, like MissingNo., can be merged into one fairly big article, List of Glitch Pokémon. On that list, we can have a short description of each. See what you think.

Oh yes, very important enough to put on my talk page. Anyway, glitchy Charizard, sure, that should possibly be merged into the Charizard article, or at least mentioned. What'd be better is if glitchy Charizard were on the list of glitch Pokémon. Same with invisible shiny Bulbasaur: it should be mentioned in Bulbasaur's article that its call is used for ISB because ISB is apparently index #000 while Bulbasaur's index #001. Likewise, ?????????? should be mentioned on Slowpoke's page, and ? should be mentioned on Unown's page, because they use the same calls.

I do, however, think that MissingNo. should be kept separate, or merged into an article with 'M. They're by far the most famous glitch Pokémon, and just being a section of a greater list is like saying Caterpie doesn't deserve its own article because it sucks and has no use until it's a Butterfree.

An article with a list of glitch moves and what they do wouldn't hurt, either... but certainly not separate articles. I dunno, Argy and Pie are the style editors, so I'll bring it up to them. We'll see what we can do. TTEchidna 00:00, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Project TCGDex Reprint Issue Ideas

I've come up with something that just might solve the reprint issue plauging Project TCGDex. I've put the format up on two Trainer card articles up already, here they are:

• Here Comes Team Rocket!
• Rare Candy

Simply put, that "thick line" (actually an empty row) separates release info for individual prints of the cards that appear in multiple sets. Of course, there are a few cards where this wouldn't be practical (Potion for instance), but that's nothing a table under "Release Information" won't fix. What do you think of it?

(Oh, and if you think synchronizing the names for the Project TCGDex articles for the first three sets with the later-released sets is absolutely necessary, say the word and I'm on it.) --Shiningpikablu252 20:39, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

That's the way I was thinking of handling it originally, actually, just mentioning all sets where the card with the same text and function is released, even with alternate art, but have the main article be the first release of the card.

Secondly, although I tend to lean toward liberal standpoints, I think we need to pick a fair Pokémon for each side. {[p|Togekiss}} seems like a fairly good idea for liberals, although it's hard to say why. I'll stick with Phanpy for conservatives. Also, I'll make other templates for User Communist, User Green Party, User Fedaralist, etc. TTE, Tina, and Shiny Noctowl, do I have your approval for

Redirects Categorized?

Should I categorize redirects? I haven't so far, and no one else has done it, but, just to be safe... -Politoed666

Actually, I've categorized a few redirects corresponding to VS cards. I categorized those redirects so that the VS versions are the ones reflected in the unreleased cards category as opposed to a version that saw English release.

Project Decks

I'd like to make guidelines for Project Decks articles. I have them here. They're what I've been using for the most part, and I'm getting irritated with finding that people have created archetype articles that are horribly unspecific and brief. I'd like to make this the template for any future articles that are a part of Project Decks. -Politoed666

I seem to be fresh out of things to do. There are enough TCG archetypes that don't have articles, but I need something fairly minor to do. If there's anything at all that you're working on that needs helped along, tell me. -Politoed666

Well, I have been trying to change all of the big headings into smaller ones. You know how on some pages there's single-equals headings, below them double, and then so on? Well, it's kinda distracting to have a subheading the same size as the page title, so I wanna make it so it starts from heading 2.

Luckily we have no pages that use the sixth (or even fifth) heading, so we'll be fine.

Not really. Red and Green were programmed, released, the programming was edited slightly, Blue was released. The code was combined, Red and Blue were released. The code was edited again, Yellow was released. The code was rearranged quite a bit, expanded, and changed slightly, but overall, the coding of Gold and Silver is the same as that of Red and Green, so Gen II was backwards-compatible with Generation I. Crystal... just added more color functionality and a female player.

Then Gen III was on its way. The coding was completely overhauled for the GBA. Pokémon data is vastly different in III from I and II. Likewise, Generation IV did the same to Gen III's coding as II did to I: added some, but overall not enough to make it extremely difficult to convert.

Gen I had 44 bytes of data per Pokémon, II had 48, adding only four (which is how come it is able to be traded, as these bits are easily translated, even though even the Pokémon's index number between the two varies greatly). Gen III has 100 bytes, more than double the information. Gen IV has 136, which allows Pokémon to come forward, but GF likely figured it'd be too hard to restrict Pokémon going back with held items and all, and these data (such as date of capture) are likely not easily stored in Gen III.

It's not possible to trade between I/II and III/IV because I/II use the basic same data structure, while III and IV use a different, but shared one. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, they don't revamp it again in Gen V, but really, who knows? Maybe they'll do it enough that you can't transfer directly from III to V, but can from IV. Beats me too. All I know is that we have it over on that other wiki. We used to have problems like this all the time (in fact, JohnnyRebel originated there), but it's largely stopped now, thanks in part to some of the security we've had to put in place.
