Talk Page Comments

Please don't erase talk page comments for no reason. Trust me, you do NOT want to end up like Big Johnno, who got into an edit war with a sysop over comments the former had erased and was trying to keep erased. That user ended up blocked and subsequently had every erased comment restored. --UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 16:51, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry - I wasn't aware that deleting the initial welcome section isn't allowed. No worries, I don't intend to start edit wars or anything similar. I'll make sure to remember this in the future. --Socob 17:00, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Re: Silver Eevee

Yeah, I know its not. I really love it, but my friends think I'm crazy (I'm a 14 year old girl who draws Eevees in her music book, they have a reason to think I'm crazy)!! Silver Eevee talk? contribs! 03:03, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

You are awesome

Keep up the great work on the Archives. And I think Pikachu flashes yellow a little faster in the DPPt sprites... Anyway, great anipng. TTEchidna 07:33, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Hehe, thanks, I'll do my best. I recorded the animation and calculated the duration based on how many frames it lasted in the video, but obviously, that's not exactly the most accurate procedure. There's no better way of doing it as of now, though, right? -- Socob ( Talk | Contribs ) 13:51, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
The way you're doing it serves well enough. TTEchidna 22:11, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Hey

I see you do sprites. So do I. :o Anyway, nice work, but calculating the time for the anipng's isn't really efficient (as opposed to my way). Leave me a message on my talk page so we can talk.Dennis 10:02, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

My way

The way I do it, I don't need to time anything by myself, this is how:

  1. Record the animation from an emulator
  2. Crop and mirror, then save as .avi in a program called VirtualDub (Mirror because I record it from the status screen)
  3. Open that in Photoshop (I use CS4) and make it transparent, then save as animated gif.
  4. Open the gif animation in a program called GIF Movie Gear, edit it there and save as animated png.

This way, you don't have to count anything by yourself, the fact you recorded it gives you the correct timing. Dennis 11:02, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

So it's the same approach, just with a little more automatization. I'll definitely try out GIF Movie Gear. -- Socob ( Talk | Contribs ) 12:05, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
By the way, if you happen to have blank boxes when you open the gif in GIF Movie Gear, know that theyre blank because its the same frame as the first before it becomes blank (so you just copy paste that frame 3 times if you have 3 blank boxes and so on, get it?) image if my explanation wasn't clear: Untitled-1.jpg

So

"I'm uploading animated shiny Emerald sprites", could you direct me to some of your shiny Emerald animations? (I just want to check them out). Considering the fact that you upload them too, and that I alone did 68 shiny Emerald sprites this week from Deoxys and down, would you like to help so we can, I don't know, divide the work? And by the way, did you try my method of doing the DPPt animations? Dennis 17:15, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

I think I uploaded shiny Emerald sprites from #010-#044. However, I merely recolored the existing normal sprites, so the timing is the same as in those. I did (and do) use GIF Movie Gear for the animations I do from scratch, though, and it certainly makes things easier. I started from Bulbasaur and went up, so we're kind of dividing work already. I haven't had much time recently and I'm also busy with Gen. II sprites, though, so don't expect too much. -- Socob ( Talk | Contribs ) 20:11, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
It's cool, glad to have someone else helping no matter which ones, the Gen II ones need work too. :) Dennis 11:56, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Question

You said you recolored existing animation, how did you manage this and with which software? Decibel 18:49, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

I took a screenshot of a single frame from the shiny animation (except for two occasions where the animation involved changing colors), downloaded the existing animation from the Archives and opened both files in GIMP. Since the animations are GIF files and thus have a color index, I just took the colors from my screenshot and replaced the corresponding colors in the original animation's index. -- Socob ( Talk | Contribs ) 19:14, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
