Could you please sign talk pages with 4 ~ signs? Then yous signature will work. To get a signature working though, you'll need to go to "my preferences" (up there, along with your talk page and user page) and type the code for your signature in "Nickname", and be sure to turn Raw signatures on. You're correct, I have no real authority. But please look at [http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/showthread.php?t=25927 this forums post, and you can see that even Zhen Lin agreed that all the fluff in userspace should be deleted.
