Welcome to Bulbapedia, Luigifan!
Bulbapedia bulb.png

By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Take a look at our FAQ. If you're still stuck, ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

Userpage making...

I'd like to make my userpage, but I don't have permission... What. How do I get permission, then?!? --Luigifan 22:13, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Most likely means you haven't had your account on the site long enough to be autoconfirmed. Also, no, only staff knows the requirements to be autoconfirmed and they (rightfully) do not share this information with anyone. ChE clarinetist (talk) 23:47, 14 December 2015 (UTC)
To be able to edit your userpage you have to be autoconfirmed. To be autoconfirmed, you must be an active user for longer than a few days and make a specific amount of mainspace edits. How many mainspace edits, I do not know.--ForceFire 04:28, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Signature

Per our signature policy, your signature should link to either your user page or your talk page. Your signature does not appear to currently do either. Could you please update your signature to comply with the policy? Thanks! Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:31, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Once again, please fix your signature so it links to your user page or talk page. Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:41, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

The Preview Button

Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Page button. Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Also, if you want to edit multiple sections of the page, make sure that you click "edit this page" at the top of the page rather than editing it by section. Thanks! --ht14 17:02, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

I wish I could edit the entire page at once, rather than going section by section; it would be very helpful for making sure the right templates are going in the right places (and therefore not having to repeatedly edit the same part of the page because the formatting was done wrong and isn’t working right). Alas, I am editing from a mobile phone, and Bulbapedia... well, for lack of a better way to put it... Bulbapedia does not play nice with mobile devices. I really have no clue why; other MediaWiki sites, like Wikipedia and the Dungeons & Dragons wiki, function on a mobile device precisely the same way they would on a laptop when put in desktop mode, but Bulbapedia’s functionality on a mobile device works terribly no matter how I try to fiddle with the settings, and Bulbapedia is the only MediaWiki site I know of that has these issues. It's all very disconcerting. --Luigifan 18:07, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
I will tell you two things.
First and foremost: at the very least, if you use the desktop mode of the site, there is definitely a preview button. Please use preview so you don't actually save very obvious errors like you have just recently.
Secondly: if you're using the desktop mode and you click a section edit link, you can remove the "&section=[#]" part of the resulting URL to edit the whole page. Then you can work on multiple sections without saving separately for every single one.
On a separate note, please also refer to the above section and fix your signature. Thank you.

I have been using the preview button, but just because I see a problem doesn't mean I know the proper code to fix it. Also, I can't get at user settings and fix the signature from a mobile device. I will have to do it when I am home. --Luigifan 19:06, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
If you see a problem, then don't save it. Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:09, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
Luigifan if you view the desktop site on your mobile device you'll be able to access your preferences and change your signature.ФорсФайре 19:17, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
Actually, I can't. The search bar is in the way. I was barely able to click on the "log in" button as is. I have no idea why Bulbapedia’s setup on mobile devices is so wonky; it still works fine on computers. --Luigifan 19:28, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
That's a shameФорсФайре 19:31, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Move variations

1) It's not important if one move in a group is a punching move or something.

2) In the "tt" template (and therefore most of the move "notes", which use that format), pretty much only plain text works. It does not work "right" with links or anything.

I know it's hard to check history from a mobile device. That still doesn't mean it's really the smartest thing to just keep re-adding something that's being removed. FYI, on mobile I think you can still check either Recent Changes (where you should be able to find whatever undid your edit) or your contributions (where you should be able to view the diff for your revision and then check what came afterwards).

Tiddlywinks (talk) 21:17, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Nope, I can't check contributions or page history on a mobile device; I can look at recent changes, but that’s it. And it actually is important if one or two moves in a group fit in one of the special usage categories, since that defines how they interact with certain moves, Abilities, and items. Petal Dance can be copied by Dancer, while Thrash and Outrage cannot; Bug Buzz can be blocked by Soundproof or sealed with Throat Chop (but can bypass Substitute) and Energy Ball can be blocked by Bulletproof, while Psychic and Earth Power are stopped by neither; the three elemental punches are boosted by Iron Fist, while Signal Beam and Relic Song are not (and Relic Song is subject to the same caveats and perks as Bug Buzz); and so on and so forth. Plus, the page for move variations mentions when all the moves in a group fit a certain usage category, so it feels hypocritical not to mention when some but not all of the moves in a group do, especially when this creates a distinction between certain otherwise-similar moves which certain Pokémon can exploit. I can’t fathom why you are against including such important information. --Luigifan 21:44, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
EDIT: Oops, I literally just noticed that I actually can look at my contributions on a mobile device. I still have no way to directly look at a page’s history or talk page, though. --Luigifan 21:48, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
People can look at a move's page if they want to know how a move interacts with an Ability or whatever (or if they want to know anything more about the move; and if you're talking about what Pokemon can exploit something, you'll definitely need to view other pages anyway). It doesn't need to be detailed on that page. The page is more about similarities than tangential differences. Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:03, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Do not edit war. If you disagree with an edit, discuss it with the user that reverted you, don't just simply add back the information. Move variations are variations because they share PP, power, and whatnot. They are not variations because of how they are interpreted or used. Other things like abilities and such shouldn't be mentioned since it would make it look like a move is not a variation because it can't do something the others can.--ForceFire 06:50, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

Edit warring

Please do not continuously revert an edit, it falls under edit warring and is a blockable offense. If you disagree with an edit, take it to the talk page of the user that reverted you, do not revert them back. Your category was not notable because so what if signature move doesn't match their user. The Searing Sunraze trivia is not unique if it is shared with three other moves, that is not the definition of unique. The Moonsault trivia is simply way too specific to be notable.--ForceFire 16:08, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Bug (type)

First, bug's place in the type chart was already described in the battle properties section. No need to repeat them again in the characteristics section. Second, these edits were approved (in the section "meta franchise information"). sumwun (talk) 01:51, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Linking in Pokémon TCG species pages

Please do not add a link to the text in Pokémon TCG species pages as seen here and here. The link to the Pokémon is in the template header. Thanks. — Ruixiang95 01:09, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Um... what? No, it's not. There's a link to the list of Pokémon by national Pokédex number, but no direct link to the Pokémon species depicted on the TCG card. --Luigifan 01:12, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
It's at the top of the card listing, the line above "Cards listed with a blue background are only legal to use in the current Expanded format.". You can click on the name of the Pokémon, that's where the link is. — Ruixiang95 01:38, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
